Hunt for six Turkish illegal immigrants who escaped from immigration detention

10-5-2014-7-34-17-PM-wpcf_728x413.jpg

BANGKOK: -- Police and Map Ta Pud residents have been hunting for six Turkish illegal immigrants who escaped from a detention cell of the immigration police in Map Ta Pud since Saturday night.

The six escapees and a sixth who was arrested by the police were sent from Phang-nga province to the detention centre of the immigration police at Map Ta Pud, Rayong province, pending court trial on charges of illegal entry.

Police said that the six plotted the escape by asking their friends to hire two taxies to the detention centre. When officials were about to bring them food in the evening, the six Turkish broke out of their cell toward the two waiting taxies.

However, police managed to capture the two taxi drivers and one Turkish. The other five Turkish men escaped into the woods in Tambon Huey Pong.

About 100 policemen and volunteers were mobilized today to scour the woods in search of the five escapees who were thought to be hiding in the woods.

Police said that the six Turkish illegal immigrants might have suffered from stress after being detained for four months and tried to escape.

Using taxis as get away vehicles, after storming past guards in an escape, is probably not the best way to go.

did the taxis use the meter?

Did their cells actually open directly to the outside of the centre rather than inside a locked compound ? Seems strange.

They fled in anticipation of another detention centre 'dinner'? Probably could have been found in a local kebab shop.

Yeah I did wonder about that as well.

If all I had was rice 3 times a day, I would escape too!w00t.gif

So if they were fed a Doonner kebab meal they wouldn't have fled you reckon?

No put the som-tam over there in the far corner please, just leave the door!

They were in detention for 4 months? Why so long, if illegal pass judgement and ship them out.

Not surprised they wanted to flee if waiting for so long for a fairly simple procedure..

Nice to see that there were 100 people looking for them, probably more the the amount of police looking for the Koa Toa murderers at the beginning.

Many of the detainees are held for a long time simply because they can not get the money for tickets out, and/or arrange for the tickets. The Thai Government does not provide this.

4 months in Monkey House (Jail) and they must have had enough. Thai police is lucky they didn't kill anyone after 4 <deleted> months in jail for a simple overstaying. Who knows what can 4 months in Thai Prison can do to your soul?

The OP said nothing about overstaying.

It said illegal entry.

seemed to have worked though, i wonder how much the ''escape'' cost them.

Everyone who believes they escaped without paying their dues and receiving help...raise your hand...

did the taxis use the meter?

hmmm, Do taxi meters actually work?cheesy.gif

Four months in jail for as it seems not having the right stamp in the passport?

And then a three digit number of people hunting them?

Maybe that's just a set up for some kind of Hollywood movie?

did the taxis use the meter?

certainly not, because meter would have needed a 10 min arguing with the driver first.

No Döner kebab in Turkey, it was invented in Germany. Iskender kebab or Andana kebab would be more like it.

Them pesky taxi drivers will do anything for a fair these days ( except turn on that little thing with lights and numbers on it ) I'm taking about the car as well as the meter !! haha

How did they enter illegally? Swimming from Mediterranean sea?

Turkish citizens can enter Thailand with visa waiver for 30 days, why bother sneaking around when you can arrive legally and overstay (which is less a crime than illegal immigrant?). Yet again another vague news with no clear facts.

Hey , look at the positive side, maybe they really want to get out ....... of the country !!!!!!!
