Well, gosh! Why did they even bother to bring this to our attention, nobody has been 'caught', nobody has or is going to be punished......?sad.pngwai.gif

With a minimum of 300% tax on a luxury car not made in Thailand what do they expect. That's the biggest robbery I see here, excessive import tax.

It’s the same old government scam, a con characteristic of Thailand; these people in government are not stupid; they know very well they created the problem with their tax rate. They also know that people would not cheat and there tax revenues would increase if they lowered the rate.

This law was created to enable the connected to accept bribes. Tax revenue is not concentrated it goes into a general fund, bribes and payoffs can be concentrated to specific individuals in government, these schemes are so transparent.

Could always lower the tax to eliminate black market all together, might even make money money in tax by selling more luxury cars at decent prices

Your living in La-La land Konying, that's not the Thai way.. coffee1.gif

They finally figured out that the cars are being stolen in Malaysia. Insurance claimed and then being shipped or driven to Thailand and under the table registration docs issued.

The car is useless without a book clean your own backyard first.

It's been going on since forever.

Smuggling has long provided the financing for the south to be a tad over represented in the national politics of the Kingdom.

this has been going on for years

Well this is shaping up to be another thread with nonsense posts.coffee1.gif

Yes it has been going on for ever.

But publishing it for the whole world to see is a new wrinkle.rolleyes.gif

Whoa there.

You do realise that the Richest of the Rich, the Elite of the Elite, actually like (and even prefer to have) the 300%/600% luxury car taxes?

a) 20 million Baht is nothing to them, but worse ...

cool.png It would be anathema for them to see mere Mercedes and Porsche owners buying 500 bhp cars and thereby diluting their elite circle.
