Dogmatix
Why are we not surprised that the police would ignore a summons from the NCHR?
meand
Possible international accountability. Of course they did not show up. I can't wait til there are more cases like this where they are pushed into the international community, and the perfect little bubble that they've built for themselves crumbles.
Popular Post GAZZPA
I am so tired of this loss of face BS. I dont even think it means what people think it does. If I were to translate it accurately I would say loss of face actually means "getting away with it" (whatever it is they are trying to get away with). In the West the closest thing is reputation I guess but, it is entirely possible for people to do something wrong and maintain a decent reputation by showing honesty and holding hands up saying "I messed this up". Its such a shame that being brave and owning up is not rewarded here.. Also, Thais believe they have not lost face as long as the truth does not come out,, even if everyone else knows it to be true,, stupid. In this case it is a murder investigation and there is no room to worry about face. The more I live and work here the more convinced I am that this ancient idea of "face" has no place in the modern world and it seriously holds the country (Thailand) back.
outsider
Just curious... if this will result in more sanctions against Thailand?
Digitalnomade
Just curious... if this will result in more sanctions against Thailand? sanctions from other countries? I don't know, but tourists will probably book their flight to another country. these days it s very easy to travel everywhere and there is lot of choice. Thailand will be now at the bottom of the list for many tourists.

abitmiffed
It sucks for westerners who rely on tourism to survive, i think this is what this country needs. A BIG slap in the face to hopefully wake them up to understand what it means by "kill the tourist kill the tourism" im so done with this country now.
A1Str8
Of course they ignore it. Everything they have done was revealed. What do you expect them to talk about? Their major face loss? Edited November 19, 2014 by A1Str8
tingtongtourist
I do wonder if Thai does know about the hot potato story?. This is extraordinary. How many more brown fingers to be burnt? First is tossed from various police, even to one chief of police who must think all his Songkran come at once to be premote into place of safety. Some anti corruption guys must have refused to catch potato and get sacked. second police chief also catch but is even more lucky than first and buys some shares of some 600million baht or so. now human rights guys want a piece of the action but this one been passed around so much no police want to be caught holding the dolly. For sure these Thai police would make a great rugby player! Edited November 19, 2014 by tingtongtourist
