Bangkok Airways kicks off four new routes from Chiang Mai

BANGKOK, 30 October 2014 (NNT) -- Bangkok Airways has recently launched its four new routes from Chiang Mai to four key cities ahead of the formation of ASEAN Economic Communities, which will start in 2015.

Inaugural flights from the northern province of Chiang Mai to the four destinations, which include Phuket, Udon Thani, and Mandalay as well as Yangon in Myanmar commenced on October 26.

According to the carrier website, as Chiang Mai is considered one of the most famous tourist destinations in Thailand, attracting a large number of both Thai and foreign tourists, the company hopes that the four new routes will enhance its ability to support the growing demand for air travel when the AEC takes place in 2015.

At present, Bangkok Airways operates 2 daily direct flights between Chiang Mai and Udon Thani and one flight from Chiang Mai to Phuket; it flies three times and four times a week from Chiangmai to Mandalay and Yangon, respectively.

I hope they come out with some discounts on advance sales for one route...good for a year.

We travel from Chiang Mai to Udon every 90 days. Would like to see a book of 16 tickets at a lower price.

nok air is cheaper

It is cheaper. Though you get what you pay for.

All in all, with their complimentary airport lounges and frequent flyer programme, it's a more pleasurable experience flying with Bangkok Airways IMO.

bkk airways lounges are only in bkk, samui and phuket..i guess

What's the deal with visas to Myanmar (Mandalay, Rangoon)? Local travel agency or Bangkok Airways can provide this service?

Is travel restricted for tourists?

A one hour flight....I would go for the cheaper. It is not like you are going to get time to have lunch, dinner and a movie. I might find a lounge benefit interesting...on international flights (longer checking in and waiting at international airports). Here we are talking about one hour....

Bangkok Air would have to get more competitive to get my business.

PG Lounges in both CNX terminals too.

Go to the Myanmar eVisa site and read the FAQ. It still lists Rangoon (Yangon) as the only port of entry for e-visas (although they've announced that Mandalay and other cities will be added soon) and the FAQ contains a long list of areas restricted from travel without permission.

A few local travel agencies here in Chiangmai advertise that they'll take care of the visa process to Burma but I have no idea as to the fees involved or if travel agencies elsewhere provide the service. I don't believe any airline provides visa services of any type involving Burma.

Friendly Star Travel provide visa service for Burma and charge 2,000baht for 5 day turnaround and 2,500 for 3 days. One photo and passport and no paperwork involved. I have had 4 visas from them and will get a 5th January for a Mandalay trip. They are in Chiangmailand village. Tel 053 275 100.
