BANGKOK: -- The mothers of two teenage boys reportedly lured to work on an Indonesian fishing trawler called on Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha yesterday to bring their sons back.

Accompanied by the Labour Rights Promotion Network Foundation's director Sompong Sakaew, Saowapa Maokhantee and Jimmy Namsak handed in a petition addressed to Prayut via the Office of the Prime Minister's complaint centre yesterday.

Saowapa's son, Thaksin Wannasin, is just 15 and Jimmy's son Thiradon Pengkho is barely 13 years old.

"Both boys are from Bung Kan province," Sompong said.

The labour activist said neighbours allegedly lured the boys into working on the trawlers using fake documents that identified them as 20-year-old Cambodian nationals.

The Labour Rights Promotion Network Foundation has only just found out that the boys have been detained by Indonesian immigration officials on Ambon Island.

"We have lost contact since they left in September," Saowapa said tearfully. "My son has thalassemia and needs blood transfusion every four months."

Sompong urged the government to bring the boys back home as soon as possible and improve measures to block marine-based human trafficking and the use of child labour on fishing trawlers.

He said a survey had found some 35 Thai children were victims of exploitation in Indonesia.

Wanchai Boon-in, who used to work on an Indonesian fishing trawler, said some Thais could not return to Thailand because their travel documents were held by employers.

The complaint centre's chief Suksawas Suwanawong said he would contact the Foreign Ministry, Labour Ministry and Social Development and Human Security Ministry to ensure the two boys are helped.

"Hi Mommy, we are juz going for a walk" - and hey presto they are lured onto a fishing boat! Nothing to do with a greedy parent selling her kids off to help out with a few extra baht?

And when the baht did not show up scream for help. Do unto others as you would have others do unto you. A very applicable quote here given Thailand stance on people on fishing boats.

The foreign Ministers department should be handling this not the PM department, if the boy's are in Ambon it is indeed in the international arena, including the UN human rights org, all the foreign minister has to do is phone he's counterpart in Indonesia and the ball will start rolling from there, at least the mothers will know what is happening and what is required from Thailand's side, after all Indonesia is a-part of ASEAN. coffee1.gif .

Tragic story of Thai child slave labor traffic. Thailand is the pits.

No a tragic story about parents selling their children!! The OP "forgot" to mention that the parents were paid 10.000 baht by an agent for the kids to go working in a factory in Pattani!!

No contact in more than 2 months doesn't worry the good parents of those very young kids, and only after being contacted by authorities, they come up with their cry-story!!

Hope the kids are returned safely to Thailand, but not in the care of their greedy parents!!

Some people certainly have disturbing imaginations. Simply because they are Thai the parents must be greedy and willing to sell their children for a few baht? And since others have been treated badly on fishing boats, these parents should just write their kids off?

I don't think you realize what this bitter, hate-filled rant says about you.

"Do unto others as you would have others do unto you."

You mean like writing a nasty, bigoted, totally imaginary screed about others?
