baboon
Strip them of every baht that they, their immediate family, and their domestic helpers own, be it properties, chattels and goods, leave them with only a short to their bodies, throw them all in jail, not in-active posts, and throw away the keys and maybe, just maybe, the message will sink in... Are they not entitled to a fair trial first, or is that concept just pinko liberal nonsense now?

HUAHIN62
More trumped up charges against anyone appointed by the previous democratically elected government. This totalitarian regime will stop at nothing to consolidate their power. Disgusting! Ha Ha we forgot your regime (disgraced) never did wrong did they ?? disgusting Yes the previous government was disgusting like the one before them and one before them etc. But the last one was elected. On the subject of corruption, your dear great leader promised us he will give all the details how he got to own more than B 500 million in assets (before he gave most to family). We are however still waiting, but we understand he is a busy man and don't have much time for our mere mortals. Let me however do some sums for you from the facts we have. Your dear great leader had about 40 years service, he didn't inherit the money (he gave his parents about B 290 million), he had a salary at the end of his career of B 1,4 million. To get to this asset value he had to invest B 1 million per annum for the 40 years and receive a 10% per annum return on his investments over the 40 year period. This is however impossible as he started out in the lower ranks and 40 years ago was earning a few Baht a month. So we please need to know where his assets came from and we please need to see his tax returns to see that he paid tax on his income from outside sources. Digusting go both ways, but you need to have a balanced view to see that.

Lupatria
"Pol Col Akrawut died last Thursday after falling from high building after admitting guilt to investigators." Nothing fishy there. Interesting little side note I read elsewhere: the family took the body a day later at 13:30 in reception and cremated the body only half an hour later. Normally, a funeral ceremony lasts three days ...

(MCOT online news)" People are now being murdered! Do you have any factual evidence to support that? Or just spouting off? One thing, 3,500 were murdered without any kind of trial under an "elected" PM's initiative. That is fact. Of course many of those dealers had to be executed. 4 of those 3500 deserved it in our village and they shipped kilos to Malaysia via Yala from Wang Sam Mo. The list was also given by the village headman's (PYB) Our house was pained NO DRUGS - white), red was a drug addict and the black spots on the house was a warning to stop dealing in drugs. Many chose to continue selling drugs and many had a deal with either the police, border police or army so they had to be killed to protect the top. BTW The Black teams still came to our village four - five years ago and this was under the Abhisit government.

TallGuyJohninBKK
Senior police officers in the case would be detained at the Bangkok Remand Prison separately from other inmates who may have become their enemies during their past crime suppression roles. Past crime suppression? What crime suppression???? The charges against the various officers would seem to suggest they were in quite different businesses. Who knows... they might actually feel quite at home. Edited November 24, 2014 by TallGuyJohninBKK

How to catch up with those, still living, who have money in cash, and most importantly, I think, spread out in property investments that have been easier to hide than any bank accounts or more easily traced "paper trails"? LazarusRising
Game changer. Real consequences for the criminal acts of significant players. It's going to be very interesting when the shoe is on the other foot and Thaksin is back in charge. Up until now none of the big boys have had to worry about anything regardless of whichever side was in charge. This is a good indication that the military are in this until the bitter end and there'll be no compromises. I wonder if these guys will get an opportunity to spill their guts and reveal all they know or whether they'll all have gravity issues and end up with broken spines at the chest level and next day cremations. BestBitterPhuket
They are all extremely corrupt, but we just have to accept that they can't arrest and charge all of them. They need to arrest and destroy some of the top officers, in order for others to stop or slow down. The fight against corruption will be useless unless you bring down some of the big fish. This is promising.

Or do we say, ah, the problem is too large even to attempt to address? I presented some ideas in post # . Here they are again: 1. Laws mandating transparency in government spending, including the military (excluding very limited, legitimate classified programs). 2. Laws mandating open competitive bidding on all government contracts, including military contracts. 3. Strict, and strictly enforced, laws against conflicts of interest for all government people, including those in the military. 4. Regular assets disclosures, including sources of wealth, for all government people, including those in the military. 5. Relaxation of libel and slander laws so the press can fulfill its proper function and report verifiable facts, even facts that embarrass the rich and powerful, without fear of retribution. What do you think the chances are that laws like these will be part of the reforms?
