Bacon

Featured Replies

I am looking for your recommendations of the best place to buy bacon in Chaing Mai, quality and price.

We buy really lean stuff from Rimping. 250g for 110 baht. Not as tasty as back home but pretty good.

I would try the Tops/Waitrose in the basement of Festival Mall, thick cut smoked and unsmoked back bacon and Cumberland sausages with a Waitrose Label exactly the same as sold in the UK

best value for me and best taste too is from sausage king... buy at his home/restaurant and get good discounts!

check out his website for pricing and types of bacon, as well as jimmy dean "style"

Me too ...... Hapico Loin Bacon

Macro also sells the ¨Roys¨ brand smoked bacon. 275baht per kilo pack. I have found it quite tasty with the only down side being that you really have to eat it all within 3 to 4 days. I always thought bacon would keep longer as its basically preserved by the salt.

Maybe they use a different method here..... chemicals and flavors only? I shudder when I think about it. However that said, I still like Roys bacon.

Not if you cut it into portions when you get home and freeze it. Not easy when its frozen but can be done.

What about cooking it before you freeze it?

Thats what i do ,buy it by the Kg, cut it up in portions thats enough to

make a couple of sandwiches,or bacon and eggs, then freeze it,been

doing it for years, also freeze butter ,milk and bread, comes out just as good

as when i put it in.

The Pork here is very good ,but not easy to find good bacon, its usually

cut too thin, and full of water, all that white stuff comes out when you fry

it,RimPing did have some good smoked bacon,it was from a restaurant

in Chiang Rai,did not shrink when cooked and had a real smoked flavour,

but as with many good things here, it never lasts, gone but not forgotten.

It might mean that they don't put enough - or any - nitrites in it.

Try sausage king lovely bacon.

yes, he has US-style & British-style, smoked & unsmoked, worth trying out, to find one you like.

I agree with Macro in the frozen meat department, one Kilo for 275 seems like the best deal to me. Also it is frozen so I only defrost what I plan on using for two or three days and leave the rest to defrost later as I need it. This works well for me.
