McDonald's Japan Probing Nuggets From Cargill in Thailand

By Kiyotaka Matsuda

TOKYO: -- McDonalds Corp.s Japan business and Cargill Inc. are investigating complaints objects were found in chicken nuggets made by a Cargill unit in Thailand, the restaurant chains second food-safety crisis in six months.

The affected nuggets, supplied by Cargill Meats Thailand, were sold at two outlets in Japan, including one in Tokyo, spokesman Takashi Hasegawa said by telephone today. McDonalds Japan is due to hold a briefing today on the probe at 3:30 p.m. local time.

We have already begun an investigation into this matter, Bruce Blakeman, Singapore-based vice president of corporate affairs for Cargill Asia Pacific, said in an e-mailed statement. Cargill, based in Minneapolis, will work closely with McDonalds as its investigation progresses, he said.

McDonalds Japan had switched sources of chicken nuggets to three Thailand factories, including two of Cargills, after a food supplier scandal in China hit McDonalds restaurants in both countries last July, Hasegawa said.

OMG did they find actual chicken in these things? I thought these things were made from various animal brains and other assorted offals and chicken flavoured.

I thought Japanese men liked probing for nuggets.

Well, after Tesco and Ikea were caught out, they have to get rid of the horse meat somewhere.

Nuggets probed? Does this mean the places on Soi 33 are open again?

Oops. Not a good 2015 start for Mcdonald's.coffee1.gif

Good.

I hope they go bust and never come back.

Amazing. Reports found that something strange was found in a chicken McNugget from McDonalds. Could it have possibly been real chicken?

Japan found vinyl in McNuggets imported from Thailand
By Coconuts Bangkok

TOKYO: -- McDonald's Japan said on Monday it was facing more chicken nugget woes after a customer found a piece of vinyl inside the popular menu item.

The company said the foreign object was recently discovered at an outlet in the northern city of Misawa, in a nugget sourced from a Thai company it had switched to in the wake of a food scare at one of its Chinese suppliers.

In July, Chinese officials shut food-supplier Shanghai Husi Food Co. following a television report alleging the plant mixed out-of-date meat with fresh product that was then supplied to McDonald's and other major fast-food chains.

The crisis prompted the Japanese arm of the global firm to drop Chinese poultry suppliers and switch to manufacturers in Thailand.

Maybe Just maybe the object was actually a piece of real chicken...whistling.gif

about 20 years or so ago, a container was inspected and seized in Vancouver as it was determined to have kangaroo meat that was slated for delivery to a fast food chain. The press would not release the name of the chain but they did say it would be branded as 100% pure beef.....I am thinkin McRoo burger.

Blue rubber glover remnants - I've received them too!

A piece of vinyl in one nugget? Hardly worth getting to upset about, if in fact this is isolated to, 1 nugget.

I have to assume from the response from both companies it is much more than the article makes it out to be.

Sadly the Thai interent nazis won't let me access the link to the original story but UK chef (and complete tosser) Jamie Olover has just helped get Macdonalds to change their practices regarding nuggets and other foods. In the US they were using meat not allowed for human consumption after treating it with amonia, apparent;y this was only happening in the US as food regulations elsewhere meant they could not do it in places like the UK, South America countries and Australia.

You might try googling macdonalds pink slime

If they ever had been to Thailand they should have known that decision would backfire

The lab detected real chicken in the nuggets, so something unusual happened in the production.

Sabotage is a possibility that can't be entirely ruled out.

Bloody hell! Ikea caught out slipping horsemeat into their expensive flatpack furniture? Whatever next? whistling.gif

This is why we need to pass the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) ASAP, allowing McDonald's and Cargill to sue the Japanese government for making them look bad and hurting their profits. Such news stories that attempt to tarnish the reputations of our sacred multinational corporations must not be tolerated.

I just had a dim-some that had what I think was a bone in it. It could have been somebodies tooth, I just discarded it and went on eating the rest of 7 pieces. Didn't give much thought of it until I read your reply.
