I have seen the Pigs head in conjunction of Chinese Celebrations as well as some people giving it to the Monks/Temple when they had something good happening they were praying for. I am sure there are other countless reasons for pigheads, these are just some of them...

You went to stay at your girlfriends house and you are not married. You probably slept in the same bed with her....and you are not married. The pigs head (usually along with some rice whisky) is an offering to the house gods so that they will not be offended by your behavior and it sort of acts as a temporary marriage license...allowing you to cohabitate with your girlfriend while at her parents' house......really.

They might have put the pigs head at the spirit house so if you didn't look there it would have seemed to have disappeared. I'm not sure how long they leave it there...I never went to my wife's family's home until we arrived to live there and we were married the first day so we didn't need a pig's head.

I have seen pigs heads, and eggs, as common offerings to the monks when a favor is asked, or luck is hoped for.

Wasn't lucky for the pig!!!!!!!!!!!!! :o

If the attachment works, post-6335-1155824410_thumb.jpg here's a pictures of the pig we had for the installation of our spirit house.

It's the apparent grin on the pig's face that cracks me up.

When I go to the Market in Udon there is a Pigs head vendor that has a large stand filled with about 20 pigs head. The first time I walked by it I said <deleted> is going on here. :o

I really don't give it much of a look anymore, but it is interesting that is actually more a ceremonial thing.

I figured Thai people just like eating pig heads.

Hi Ive been to many weddings where a pig is slaughtered and the head is placed in the house with candles in its nostrils?? (always thought smoking was bad 4 u!!) along with other ceremonial goodies. The rest of the pig is eaten and this was also done when my new house in Surin was blessed. As Lampshade suggests, they say pigs in Paradise (not Space) according to Budha. :D

your lucky.just one head.

when i first arrived in issan with the future misses,i had to purchase ten (TEN) heads complete with trotters and off we wen't to the local spirit house with the local "mor doo" (fortune teller/bringer of good fortune)

i was less convinced by the "powers"of this person

still thai's are a superstisious lot

i recon no harm done and it "popped a few credits in" for myself.
