whats the transport like in chiang mai

Featured Replies

How much should a 1km trip in a tuk cost? How about a 2km trip and 3km? .

Just my experience:

(1) Nowadays, about 60 baht is the lowest amount they'll charge even going a relatively short distance....such as 1 kilometer.

(2) It's cheaper during the day than at night.

(3) It's cheaper to grab one going by the street versus the "controlled" groups situated at the prime locations (Thaepae Gate, the malls, in front of the Tesco on Nimmanhaemin, etc., etc.). The "controlled" groups don't negotiate very much.

(4) For a distance, let's say, from Kad Suan Kaew to Kad Luang (Wararat Market), sometimes I can pay 80 baht but often it's 100 baht.

Typically, though, I use the baht busses or simply walk.
