Bangkok: Tourist police arrested a taxi driver Wednesday for allegedly refusing to return a suitcase of a Chinese tourist and his family.

Mongkol Setthi-udomsup, 45, from Si Sa Ket, was arrested at his rented room on Soi Lard Prao 48. Tourist Police Sub-division 1 deputy chief Pol Col Pinij Chuaykul announced Mongkol’s arrest at a press conference at 6:30 pm.

The arrest was made shortly after Wang Xi, 40, a Chinese tourist, filed a complaint with tourist police at the Don Mueng International Airport at 9:30 am Wednesday, Pinij said.

Wang told the tourist police that he and his family rode a taxi from Amanda Ratchada Hotel to the Don Mueng airport on Sunday. Wang said the taxi drove off before he could take out his suitcase from the taxi’s trunk. The tourist said he asked the hotel to help locate the taxi while he and his family were away from Bangkok from a trip. He filed the complaint once he returned to Bangkok.

Pinij said tourist police conducted an investigation once Wang filed the complaint and found that the taxi that took Wang to the airport that day was driven by Mongkol.

Initially, Mongkol denied that Wang’s suitcase was left in his taxi. Later, he claimed that someone had picked up the suitcase.

Police did not believe him and located and found him at his room. The suitcase was still inside the taxi’s trunk when police found Mongkol. The suitcase contained some clothes and a battery charger.

The driver was charged with committing theft inside an airport.

Returning haplessness hatefulness heartlessness haughtiness happiness to the people.

His license to drive a taxi in Thailand should be revoked. A thief and a liar.

And as stupid as they come.

"Mongkol denied that Wang’s suitcase was left in his taxi".

"Later, he claimed that someone had picked up the suitcase."

"The suitcase was still inside the taxi’s trunk when police found Mongkol."

Smart people generally do not become taxi drivers biggrin.png

Charged with....da da daaaaa...........Theft in an airport.

I wonder if it holds a heavier or more lenient consequence than 'theft at night' or 'theft on a train'

Thainess

What an idiot!? Keeping the case in the trunk while chilling with his mia noi and watching lakhorn... dump as a taxi driver :-)

Hi jacking a suitcase at an airport should carry the death sentence Hijacking at the end of the day he is just a common thief.

No doubt the court will deal with him fairly, I would not be surprised if he spent a few month in prion over this.

Though I agree but i also understand that such actions will never be taken against him. Thats how the system runs.

By crikey this is evil.

He could easily have said he forgot about the suitcase in the boot of the car.

But immediately went to a lie.

Then when challenged went to another lie.

There really has to something wrong with guys like this, I mean seriously wrong in their head!

Why.

To deflect responsibility by lying or blame someone/something else. (As a child would do)

Losing face.

The crippling feature of Thai culture.
