Non O, retirement, on ext, renewal options?

Featured Replies

I'm US nat with non O on extension for retirement issued 13 Jan 2015. On that day I purchased a re-entry which is valid until 12 Feb 2016. Due to personal projections I will be out of Th next Jan and Feb. What options do I have for renewal?

Looks to me like the most practical option available to you will be to obtain a fresh non-O visa on your foreign travels during Jan/Feb 2016.

Next January and February would be January and February 2016. I presume that this is what you mean?

If so, your current retirement extension will expire on 12 JAN 2016. You can get a new one-year extension within 30 days before expiration, at some offices even earlier. Therefore, during the second half of December 2015 you should apply for your new extension, then get a new re-entry permit.

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place

Yes, as Maestro said, you can renew your extension ( the non-imm O visa is largely irrelevant once you get the extension) 30 to 45 days before the current extension expires. You don't lose anything. They'll still give you the next extension to 13 February 2017.

So renew the extension in December before you travel and make sure you get a new re-entry permit AFTER you get the new extension.

The way I read the OP, he obtained an extension (and re-entry permit) on 12 Jan 2015 which expire on 12 Feb 2016, i.e. he had 30-days still remaining on the permission-to-stay from the Non-Immigrant O visa when he applied. If that is the case, 45 days in advance would only include the last few days of December, no?

The OP just needs to apply 30 days early in mid Dec 15 since a person can apply 30 days early. At Chaeng Wattana/Bangkok immigration you can apply 45 days early...I asked the immigration officer during my last retirement extension a few months ago (I applied 30 days early) and she said I can apply up to 45 days early which I plan to do...earlier the better since you don't lose no time off your current extension. If using the money in the bank approach be sure the money is seasoned at least 3 month before your "application" date.

Wouldn't "mid-Dec" be almost 60 days before 12-Feb-2016?

He applied for the extension in Jan 2015, but his extension runs to Feb 2016.

All you can do is try to reapply before you leave, if they say no then get a new Non O while out of the country. Good luck.

If your going back to the US just get your paper work ready to go and get it in the mail as soon as possible after you land.

I keyed in on him saying Jan 15 issue date of his retirement "extension." I don't know how he now has a 12 Feb 16 permitted to stay date based on a retirement extension because assuming he used the exit/reentry permit to preserve his retirement extension upon reentry he would still have have a mid Jan 16 date for his extension expiration date. Now maybe he meant he has a Non-O "Visa" based on retirement, he used the exit/reentry permit and they extended the permitted to stay date to Feb 16. But regardless of visa or extension he can apply for a retirement extension up to 30 or 45 days early depending on his immigration office.

Whatever date his permission to stay ends and once he finds out whether his immigration allows up to 30 days or 45 days early application, that's what he needs to go with. Say the permission to stay is indeed 12 Feb 16, that means he needs to apply by 12 Jan 16 if his office only allows 30 days advance application...and around 28 Dec 15 if allowing 45 days advance application which would be before his next planned travel date of Jan 16. But even if his office only normally allows 30 days they may allow 45 days (or slight more) if you have proof of travel and they are in a good mood...he should talk to his immigration office.

Or he meant the retirement visa was issued Jan 15 but he didn't arrive thailand until Feb 15 which gave hin the mid Feb 16 permitted to stay date.
