PHUKET: An Australian man was taken to hospital yesterday (March 4) with a throat injury he sustained in what is believed to have been an attempted suicide. Police believe the suicide attempt was made due to stress.

At 6:30am Kathu police were called to the Patong Tower Hotel on Taweewong Rd in Patong to investigate a report of an Australian tourists who had slit his throat with a knife.

Kathu police arrived at the hotel with Kusolharm rescue workers and found the victim in the bathroom of his room. Blood covered the man and the bathroom floor. The knife that had been used was in the bathroom sink.

The victim was still conscious and rescue workers gave him first-aid before taking him to Patong hospital.

The victim, later named by hotel staff as Jason Kevin Klingberg, 42, from Australia, was said to be a very quiet man and mostly stayed alone in his room.

The member of staff who who called police said, “I walked passed the room and heard a weird noise so I opened the room to check and saw blood and then the tourist.”

Police are currently unaware as to why Mr Klingberg wanted to take his own life but assume that stress may have been a factor.

wow! 2 in one day. Thailand is becoming the hub of murder by numbers. The police here seem to be the stupidest in the whole wide world, every murder attempt is always suicide when it involves a foreigner.

What they didn't rush to the scene? It's good that he survived so at least he can give his side of the story and not just what the police say.

Alcoholics + Thai Bar Girl = Dead !

Many foreigners come to Thailand for a holiday. Many SINGLE foreigners come to Thailand once, and are smitten by the girls, the culture and the lifestyle. Many SINGLE male foreigners that arrive in Thailand for the first time are taken in by how easy it is to find "love" in Thailand. Many male foreigners are lured back time and time again by the aphrodisiac that is Thailand. And then some of these foreigners get caught out, loved up, robbed blind, lose their shirts, their self respect, their life savings, the lot. Many of the foreigners who come here and suffer what was just described are lonely, often alcoholic, often depressed in their home country, expecting that the disease known as depression wont get on the plane with them. Many have embraced Thailand to the point of becoming fanatical about it, visiting repeatedly, but being financially unable to relocate to the place that they yearn for daily when back at home. Throw all of those things into a bag and there you have it. Many depressed foreigners DO choose Thailand as the place they want to have their last love, their last drink, their last feed, their last smoke before catapulting themselves into the afterlife. These men are from every continent, and the numbers of suicides that occur do look high purely because of the number of "Suicidal s" that congregate to Thailand for their last big hurrah. The number of suicides in Thailand by foreign nationals far out ways the number that are murdered here by Thai's or foreigners alike. Thailand attracts many a lonely, alcoholic, depressed foreigner that has no desire to go home. EVER. wai.gif

But I doubt that we will hear his side.
