Very sad to report that Robert ( Bob) Tilley, of The Writers Club passed away last night. Bob was a Chiang Mai institution, one of my favourite people anywhere in the world, not just Chiang Mai. A charming and friendly host at The Writers Club, a man with an affectionate story for every situation, a man with a great sense of humour and always found time to talk to all his customers.

Bobs departure leaves a great big hole in Chiang Mai, he will be sadly missed and anyone who knew him would I think have nothing but fond memories.

Our thoughts are with dear Tong, Kes, Pim and the rest of the family at this very sad time.

Please post funeral details so that we can all pay our respects to Bob for the wonderful Friday evenings he hosted at The Writer's Club.

When we first arrived in CM 6 years ago and stayed in the old city the Friday nights at THE WRITERS CLUB were most enjoyable and as has been said Bob was a wonderful host.

That's a sad loss for CM and our thoughts are with his family

Sad to hear of Bob's passing although last time we met a few months ago he clearly indicated that he was in failing health. Bob and his wife brought a level of class to the ex-pat Chiang Mai evening scene at the Writer's Club that I was certainly unable to bring to the table.

Very sad to hear.....

Bob exuded warmth and always a pleasure to talk to.

A real gentleman.
