PATTAYA: -- Pattaya Police have shut-down an International Marijuana Mail-Order business allegedly run by 3 Russians.

On Monday Morning at Chonburi Police Headquarters, Police Major General Nittipong, the Provincial Police Commander held a press conference and confirmed the arrest of 3 Russians and 2 Thai females, in connection with the drug distribution network.

Police were first alerted to a problem when the Thai Postal Service intercepted a number of packages destined for Russia, at the Airport in Bangkok. The parcels originated from Pattaya and were packed full of Marijuana, a class 5 drug in Thailand.

Pattaya Police took over the investigation and arrested two Russians, Mr. Georgy Nyushkov aged 28 and Mr. Aleksei Druzhinin aged 30 in South Pattaya. Police escorted the men to their rented apartment in Soi Bongkot where a third man, Mr. Aleksei Samokhin aged 26, was arrested.

A search of the apartment uncovered 17kg of Marijuana, 2 Marijuana plants, Marijuana seeds and items commonly used to grow the plants. Postal Boxes, weighing scales and other items were taken into evidence.

In February, customs officials found 10kg of marijuana in packages posted to Russia, sent from Pattaya, Jomtien and Map Ta Phut post offices. Police later arrested Georgy Nyushkov, 28, Alelsei Druzhinin, 30, and Aleksei Samokhin, 26, and their alleged suppliers Kaewjai Thumaporn, 43, and Kanokphrom Wongsin, 28. The first two men were charged with possessing and attempting to import marijuana, while Samokhin faces a charge of possession.!!

Looks like the lateness of this story was because these are connected to the recent Russian Anton Petrovskiy, 45, with 0.7 gm of "ice" in Bang Lamung's Tambon Nong Preu on March 19, police arrested his Iranian supplier Akbar Mohamadi, 45, the next day with 8.32 grams of "ice" and a digital scale in Tambon Nong Preu. On the weekend, two more Iranians were arrested - Asghar Keshavarz Afshar, 38, with 102 grams of "ice" in Tambon Na Kleu on Saturday, then Abolfazl Vakili, 41, at a Bangkok house, where he stayed for 10 years with his Thai wife, along with 385.5 grams of "ice" and a digital scale on Sunday.

Why does thailand care? The drugs are heading outbound, the money coming in. Who are the real "morons" lol

An off topic post has been removed, this is not a platform for legalizing the drug it is about a local Russian Marijuana Mail-Order Business being shut down by the police.

It matters NOT what side of the fence you're on, pro-pot or not, the laws are the laws here. Certainly they're applied in a haphazard fashion, but they're still laws. Morons is quite correct.

Low IQ ? why risk growing marijuana in Thailand when it is illegal ? If you want to start a mail order business try Amsterdam !

Perhaps it is you, if you think drug trafficking should be legal.

I for one think Thailand is right to catch these criminals, personally I think if Russia has enough evidence to prosecute those criminals then they should be turned over to the Russians to deal with.

I have views on who are the real morons, sadly I think my views may differ with yours.

As far as I know, talking on a cellphone whilst driving is dangerous to the vehicle driver and those on the road. That too is illegal. But the police, khon Thai and farang alike do this, every day in clear view through their car windows. But someone smoking a joint in their own home... 5555. Stop the hypocrisy.

Look this is not about the justification or legalities of smoking a joint, absolutely nothing to do with this thread, what these people were doing was illegal here - if you want to lobby the government for legalisation in Thailand then go ahead - up to you, nothing whatsoever to do with this topic

These people were -

1. Working without a work permit - illegal

2. Growing a narcotic with intent to distribute - illegal

3. Distribution supply and export of a narcotic - illegal both in Thailand and Russia and likely selling locally also

4. Probably not holding a valid visa and likely on overstay

They are in deep (deleted) to say the least

so you were paid by illegal money from drugs,

so you should ask the police to give back your motorbike !! 555555555555

The weather and temperature aren't the same as in Pattaya. Also in Amsterdam they don't have that many Russians..

Meanwhile in the US the states that legalized cannabis are making tons of money which they can now put into public services. I don't use the stuff myself but maybe the Thais would be better off getting rid of the dangerous stuff like yabba and jet ski operators. On another note any one know what sort of time these Russian desperado's can look forward too?

Two to fifteen years. With confessions that would clock up to about two to seven years.

------

Under the terms of their Narcotics Act of 2522 (1979) marijuana is a category 5 narcotic. This law states that producers, exporters and importers are liable for imprisonment of two to fifteen years and/or a fine of 200,000 to 1.5 million baht (Section 75).

Supply and possession with intent to supply (10kg or less) is punishable with a stretch of 2 to 10 years and/or a fine of 40,000 to 200,000 baht. If you are caught with more than 10kg then you'll be looking at 2 to 15 years with a fine of 200,000 to 1.5 million baht (Section 76/1).

Straight possession is a maximum of five years inside and/or a fine of up to 100,000 baht (Section 76).
