Five migrant workers and a Thai driver die in truck crash

BANGKOK: -- Five Cambodian migrants and Thai driver were killed and eight others injured when the speeding pickup truck they travelled in skidded off the highway and crashed into a roadside canal in Phanthong district of Chonburi province on Tuesday.

Phanthong district police said the pickup truck with 12 Cambodian migrant workers and four Thais plunged into the canal near Wat Ko Loi temple on Phanthong-Ko Loi roiad at about 1.30 am Tuesday.

The truck skidded off the road because it was travelling in high speed after the Thai driver, identified later as Bunyarit Rittibun ,49, was in a hurry to deliver the migrant workers to Chonburi from Sra Kaeo before dawn.

He and five workers died while eight other Cambodian migrant workers and two other Thais were injured.

Jatuthamprateep charity foundation rescuers arrived at the scene and rushed all the injured Phanthong hospital.

Life is meaningless in Thailand unless you can make a buck from it

!2 in a truck ... too many but valuable if it reaches its destination ... guess it was worth it :(

Do I read this correctly?

16 people in/on ONE pick- up?

Show how well then enforce the law about people riding in the back of a pick up. Believe it not, there actually IS a law against it.

Sorry, I don't agree with you. The poor Cambodians have not chosen the Thai crazy driver.

Yes. Awful

I'm sure you're correct, as they cannot wear seat belts.

if i read correctly , it was peoples in this pick-up ... and the stupid thai driver drive to quick . and why the police close the eyes when they see that ?

It beggars belief that the law requires all passengers inside a vehicle to wear a seatbelt but you can pack as many people in the back of a pick up, and it's perfectly acceptable.

Guess who is more secure.
