NRC members back inclusion of "National Reform” in new Charter but with no time frame

BANGKOK, 25 April 2015 (NNT) – The Chairman of the National Reform Council (NRC) committee in charge of local administrative reform has shown his support to inclusion of provision to ensure the continuity of national reform in the new charter but said the reform should not be limited by specific timeframe.

Most of the NRC members agreed that reforms in some areas would be unable to achieve within five years as they needed more time to solve pending problems.

However, the Chairman opined that the provision for reform should limit working period of independent committees in order to prevent political meddling and political succession.

Their opinions toward the issue were made on the sixth day of debate on the 315-section draft charter this afternoon. It involved the provisions of national reforms and reconciliation in relation to the reduction of inequality and fairness promotion.

All 250 members of the NRC were handpicked by the Junta.

The NRC would be in direct conflict with the legislature and Executive branch, inasmuch as the NRC has been given direct power to implement reforms in government.

How would that work?

Just means the Junta "shadow" government remains in place beyond five years, and as many years as necessary to control any elected government.
