Ministry of Agricultural and Cooperatives gearing up for royal ploughing ceremony

BANGKOK, 10 May 2015 (NNT) - The Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives has held a ritual to pay homage to the past kings of the Chakri dynasty and the god of rain before the annual royal ploughing ceremony takes place on 13 May 2015.

Permanent Secretary for Agriculture and Cooperatives Chaowalit Chukhachon, who will be the lord of the royal ploughing ceremony this year, on Sunday presided over the ritual for good luck to the ministry’s staff as well as the public. The ceremony was attended by official Brahmans and four consecrated ladies who will carry rice seed baskets in the ploughing procession.

The royal ploughing ceremony is scheduled for 13 May 2015 at Sanam Luang. 11 royally-bestowed rice strains will be strewn over the ceremonial ground. 2,520 kilograms of rice seeds will be handed out to farmers and the public who go to the ceremony.

Football gamblers netted in Thalang

PHUKET: A crime suppression special task force – led by Thalang District Chief Mr Wira Kerdsirimongkol, and several administration clerks (Palad) – last night netted three gamblers in Pakkhlok, seizing more than B27,000 from the suspects.

Poll: Most Thais suggest tough action & regional cooperation against Rohingya trade

BANGKOK, 10 May 2015 (NNT) – A latest survey by Suan Dusit Rajabhat University has found that the discovery of graves of Rohingya people in the Southern province of Songkhla had stirred shock and compassion among Thai people to the point that tough actions against wrongdoers had been recommended.

BANGKOK: -- A provincial councilor of Satun province and two of his men were the latest suspects held in police custody for alleged involvement in the trafficking of Rohingya people, said Pol Gen AekAngsananont, the deputy national police chief, Sunday morning.

Cabinet allows US to use U Tapao as centre for helping

BANGKOK: -- The Cabinet on Thursday resolved to allow the US government to use the U Tapao airport as a transit airport for providing humanitarian aids to quake victims in Nepal.

The US government can use the airport from May 8 to 31. As part of the operation, about eight to nine US flights will land and take off from U Tapao.
