New 'industrial ring bridge' begins to serve public

BANGKOK: -- Thailand's new so-called 'industrial ring bridge' was opened for public use on Saturday.

Ceremonies and sport events were organised to mark the unofficial opening of the bridge and to honour His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej on the auspicious occasion of His Majesty's 60 years on the throne this year.

The bridge links the Rama III zone--a mixed business, industrial residential zone of Bangkok South of the Sathon-Wireless central business district with the key Samut Prakan industrial area of Poo Chao Saming Plai.

The public can also use the new bridge to travel to Bangkok's new Suvarnabhmimi Airport, which will be officially opened for commercial service on September 28.

The official opening of the new industrial ring bridge is scheduled for December.

The bridge was open today to the public today if you were prepared to walk along it (looks like a long way!!). However the few groups of cyclists that I saw this Sunday morning were not allowed to cross it unless they left their cycles parked and walked the length of the bridge. I was told by the security person that it would be open in 3 days and as yet the bridge has not been named. Is this so?
