I agree with you and I am always super careful at immigration, but I think that I would have been so surprised that I would have flipped out too. What a chickenshit rule!

Yes......just like the 90 day reporting itself.

What does it achieve exactly?

Flamefest is officially OVER, cease and desist.

For anyone who wishes not to receive PMs from another member there is a handy function called "block".

Thank you for the reminder of that feature, never before had occasion to use it in my few years on the forum.

And unlike the annual fee for pest control at our house this pest control feature is free!

People really send abusive personal messages to others? My goodness! That's pretty intense!

Anyway, maybe this thread needs a 90-day rest! biggrin.png

Not chicken shit when you think about it , you get your number and wait to find the person in front of you has ten passports to get stamped. ?

A certain member sends pm's to other members,at least two, and the messages are quite weird, cringeworthy, and not just related to this thread. I guess they are not just sent to two members?

why did you go to Immigration to file your 90-day report???

Not every immigration office does 90 day reporting on the Internet for example Koh Samui !! Those who live on Koh Phangan have to get a boat to get over to Samui which having done it is a pain in the backside as it makes it a very long day you could get the boat at 7 am and if they have not issued your new reporting card by 11 you miss your boat back and have to wait until 5 in the afternoon , apparently theyBare moving in the next couple of months to Maenam which will make it even worse for those living on Koh Phanganas the cost of travel will be even more . I did my 90 day report three weeks ago and sat there for 3 hours even though the girl told me it would only take just over an hour !!!!! Not everyone is lucky enough to have electronic 90 day reporting yet !!!

No different here in Chiang Mai we have it but like everything else its not working. Some say the computers at their immigration office have been updated to 2011 from 2013. Oh well better exit now before the "Go back to your home country" crowd come out of the woodwork like termites.

Sorry, but I just can't relate to all the "problems" expressed by others here. I've been here going on 7 years, and only 1 time have I had anything happen that could be placed in the "Negative Column", and that was actually due to something on my part. I've downloaded all forms, saved in PDF format to my comp, then go in and fill in the information, and usually just have to only change the date. Then do color copies of the passport pages. Simple. I've had a guy at the 90 counter tell me - "Khun XXXX, if everyone did their paperwork the way you do yours, it would make our job so much easier."

Yeah, a couple of times I've had to wait for almost an hour, for my 90 day, but so what? I'm retired and could care less. But I've also learned a little trick to avoid that most of the time. My last yearly renewal took 10 minutes. My last 90 even less than that. 2 years ago, right after I'd had my stroke, the people had my wife take me outside to sit, then THEY came out, took my papers, came back with 2 for me to sign, and it was done. They even had someone help me back to the car.

The rest of you can say what you want, based on your own experiences, but I've got nothing but good to say about CM Imm.

VISA agents don't seem to need separate tickets.

I guess different rules for paying customers.

The agents always seem to be carrying a pile of passports and I have not noticed more than one ticket. You are right. It does not seem to apply to them.

I have never seen agents requiring tickets. They just walk straight to the counter with their piles of copies and forms and are immediately given priority over the rest of us peasants.

Perhaps it`s for reasons that Immigration consider processing the reports in bulk saves time rather than having queues of people on an individual basis, the official agents treated with more credibility than the rest of us. I can understand the logic and probably helps the flow of things in an already chaotic situation. It`s just unlucky for those in the queues when agents suddenly turn up creating a bigger time lapse between queue numbers.

Yes, it has been my experience there are reasons for almost every silly thing that happens in LOS, including and especially immigration.

I do not know for sure, but I would venture a guess that visa agents are known to the officials and pay them a small processing fee. Perhaps it happens once a month, a year, or an event. But it is how many govt agencies allow agents to cut the queue.

Having a system where each passport is associated with a particular queue number is their system, if you are not an agent. It is the system for everyone. Why should a clerk be excited to allow one guy to hand in 2 passports at a time? Because then loads of people would give their passports to others and get them all processed at the same time (by people who are not agents).

I have just been for my nineth annual marriage visa extension . I can well understand the pent up frustration that causes someone to blow there top . When I first attended immigration at NongKai there were comparatively few papers , no changes year upon year and the officers very kind and helpful . I have since been sent to another region , where officers are smiling and kind .

However , every year there has been an increase of new documents required . My wife comes with me and in the past has been ratty that I lacked a document I had no prior knowledge of . This year my wife determined to help me to make sure I had all the document , she had printed every page of my passport , which I had already done . The evening before departure I thought I had everything perfect . When we arrived at immigration , I discovered that my wife had taken all my copies of passport out of my file , ready to replace with her own printings .

Fortunately I had taken a brief case with all spare documents . Immigration couldn't find the letter re income which I knew had been in the folder . I blew my top , not at the officers but at my wife who had messed up my folder . I did soon find the consulate letter in my briefcase and apologised to the officers for my outburst , which they had thought was directed at them .

Later this year I have to renew my passport , after which I shall change my visa to retirement , which is far less bother and doesn't involve dragging the wife . I can establish an official address which will enable me to attend immigration much closer to home . My current immigration office is 3hrs drive away ; I always 90 day report by post . The message I get from immigration , is that Thailand doesn't want us foreigners marrying their women , that we are unwelcome , only suffered for the money we must bring in each month .

What exactly is the chickenshit rule to which you refer?

The taking one one ticket per passport? Is it not more fair for everyone if that is the rule?

Perhaps your endless patience means that you are not annoyed when a courier with 30 or so passports trots in ahead of you.

I KNEW someone would ask me that. Because it is still a valid choice, and I don't mind doing it. I always enjoy a visit to the Aberrant Human Behavior Lab, AKA "Chiang Mai Immigration." Apparently, other people seem to prefer this method as well, since the counter is busy every day.

Clearly, people who do the online report are superior in every way. Please, have pity on the rest of us.

who mentioned on line there is the the postal method so does that make me superior also ??

I think the one passport per ticket is an excellent rule, they have a one road Tax per vehicle rule at the DLT Drive thru for Tax in Bangkok. It came as a surprise the first time I went to use it and had brought three sets of vehicle documents to tax. The lady said sorry, but you need to come thru again another two times. As soon as this was explained to me it made perfect sense and I for one certainly much prefer this way of treating multiple applications, than a motorcycle courier arriving with some taxi firm's 150 books for taxing them at the same time directly in front of me.

I only just wish this rule could be extended to encompass other businesses in Thailand. I had the unfortunate experience to follow a lady into the checkout Q at Big C on Rama 4 last week. Ok so her trolley was loaded high, but whats the issue you say? well she broke the shopping down into I think it was nine separate lots and proceeded to pay for each lot separately with her credit card and scanned through to get the discounts of the preceding receipt and had the checkout girl apply them to the next batch bill. I stayed the course because I kept thinking Ok so she's almost done.. but no.

Agents make appointments with immigration officials and thus don't line up like the rest. When I did my first non imm B visa we used our laywer to do it and saw how she arranged the meeting via phone.

I broke the record this week for my 90 day report in HH. I completed the form at home and walked in, got my number and as my backside touched the seat the number came up. In and out in 2 minutes.

I prefer to do it in person too at Jomtien. I pass the office daily and it is a doddle now with the new bar code system, the computer would take longer for me,

Am in CM now for a visit. Walked past the Immigration Office yesterday, ??Should have taken a photo, it has become famous on TV, like one of these places one must see whilst holidaying in Chaing Ma I,

There was 8 police men at a check point this morning at the bottom of Ta Pad road, wouldn't fancy that if lived here.

Did you not see any brown envelopes sticking out the agents back pocket?

I took and elderly friend to get his income statement from the US Consulate the other day. His appointment was the first after lunch and although he arrived early there was a family who arrived just in front of him with an appointment after him. The family was seen first, all 5 of them, I spent over an hour outside in the car cooking.

So it is not just Thai immigration that have problems. It can happen anywhere.

Why anyone allows people to jump in front of them I do not know.

Although for obvious reasons I would not say anything about agents in the IO.

I think there are many, many people who don't know there are alternatives....or they don't trust those alternatives. I've had people look at me like I'm crazy when I tell them I mail my 90 days reports.

If you enjoy it though....have at it.

seems possible at 7/11 now

I don't feel a bit of sorry for these government workers. They represent this stupid 90 day reporting.

Yes I did have a year's visa and I had to leave the country every 90 days. But my money is more than welcome.

Thailand has a lot to learn.

Well the Yankee is right...what an A-hole lady....I have my emotions under control and wouldn't show them, but she would deserve a slap for that harassment.

I must admit things can get one uptight I had a bad spell doing my yearly 3 visits in one day I thought I had all the documentation required but they thought otherwise I wont go into detail and on the4th day I picked up my passport after having my photo taken to verify my passport photo [it was me] but I was fuming but alls well that ends well .

I was at Changewattana a few weeks ago and saw one American guy lose it at the 90 day reporting counter. He was trying to do his 90 day report 3 weeks before it was due even though the rule clearly states a 15 day limit. The reason was because he was leaving to go to America the following week for a 1 month holiday. The staff tried to explain to him that if he was leaving before the 90 days was up then there was no need to report. He was having none of it and yelling at all and sundry how stupid the Thais were.

Another farang tried to explain it to him but he still couldn't comprehend why he did not need to report and just got louder yelling in pigeon English at the thai staff. In the end they took him into an office and gave him the paper and he strutted out like the great white bwana had just bagged a lion.

I asked the immigration officer why they gave him the paper and she said he was crazy and wouldn't listen so she gave him what he wanted just to get him out of there.
