220 volt LED for garden lights

Featured Replies

Hey guys, sorry if this is a repeat. I recall a thread or more relative to 12 volt LED garden lights but can't remember for 220v which is what I have.

Anyway...

I was in Home Hub (Udon) yesterday looking for a replacement 220v 50W halogen and couldn't find any (they just had 12v). Asked the staff and she came up with this 2.5W LED. Got home plugged it in and when the lights came on, that sucker is at least as bright as the 50W halogens and probably not near as hot.

At 125 baht I'm thinking of replacing the other 7 lights and not waiting for them to burn out - should only take a few months for ROI.

Just thought some of you might find this interesting.

Cheers

If you are running them 12 hours a night, ROI @ 4 Baht per unit will be 63 nights :)

No brainer, but ensure there's some surge protection on the circuit, these lamps are susceptible to lightning surges.

If it's at least as bright as a 50W halogen, I'd say it's drawing more than 2.5 watts...

50W Halogens usually make around 900 lumens - no LED I've seen makes 360 lumens/watt... the good ones I know of make 80-100 lumens/watt.

Either way, it's either going to take a little longer for payback (if it's under-rated), or you're actually just as happy with less lumens - still a win ;)

Maybe just wishful thinking but it's bright enough:
