First truck rest area launched in Nakhon Ratchasima

NAKHON RATCHASIMA, 18 July 2015 (NNT) – Deputy Transport Minister Termpitayapaisit has presided over the inauguration of the country’s first truck rest area in the northeastern province of Nakhon Ratchasima.

The establishment of the truck rest area is to accommodate the Ministry of Transport’s policy aimed at reducing traffic accidents, and fostering transport safety and connectivity in preparation for the emergence of ASEAN Economic Community (AEC). A budget of 44 million baht has been approved for the construction.

The newly-opened truck rest area in Nakhon Ratchsima is the country’s first facility of its kind especially designed for truck drivers. The 22 rai- rest area comprises parking lots for trucks and passenger vehicles, washrooms, food outlets and convenience stores. Security cameras have also been installed around the area to ensure safety.

The Department of Highways has planned to build 41 similar facilities across the country.

First truck rest area ?

Every big gasstation in Thailand is a truck ( and car) rest area. You can sleep there too , just like the Thai.

I'm certain that the design of the entrance and exits for this rest area will cause more accidents than it prevents.

Interesting comment ! Can you explain for us. Obviously you have seen the new rest area, or at least the detailed plans.

Hope this truck-stop stops this practice of parking huge trucks on the roads near to exits/entrances of petrol stations. This is an inconvenient and dangerous to other customers wishing to use the stations. I have seen many accidents caused by this inconsiderate parking practice.
