VISA EXEMPT ENTRY - UK PASSPORT HOLDER - EXTEND, EXTENSION?

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I recently returned to Thailand late June from the USA, with no visa, effectively giving me 30 days here.

I have since been to Immigration to extend this for another 30 days. This runs out on 19 August.

Now do i have the option of extending again by another 30 days at Immigration? Or would I have to exit and re-enter Thailand, Mae Sai is the closest place from Chiang Mai.

I only really need another 2 weeks extension, as will be flying back to the UK with my thai girl/f and our son, by 02 September.

Thanks for your advice.

You will need to leave the country and re enter obtaining another 30 day visa exemption.

Incidentally if your son is Thai which I'm assuming he is you could have got a 60 day extension rather than the 30 day one if you can satisfy the necessary criteria.

You can only get one 30 day extension per entry.

You will need to do another entry. Whether you can do it at Mae Sai seems to differ day by day. The Chiang Khong crossing might be a better choice.

So the safest bet for me then, would be to apply for a 60 day family extension (due to having a child here) at Immigration Office?

I dont really want to spend my whole day travelling to and from the Mai Sai or Chiang Khong crossing. Mind you sat at CM Immigration all day isn't much fun either.............

Just seem a bit silly to apply for a 60 day family extension when ill be leaving the country within the next 15 days.

You should of applied for the 60 day extension instead of the 30 day extension. You could try to apply for the 60 day extension at immigration. Some offices will do one after you got a 30 day extension while other will not. Not sure about CM immigration.
