Huge army base, nothing for foreigners to do except drink themselves to death.

Find yourself an online date from somewhere else.

Korat Thai is a variation on Lao/Issan, so you can't learn the local language, they teach central Thai, hardly anywhere with English either.

I live in Korat and I dont drink.

I enjoy living here.coffee1.gif

I've lived here for 9 years now very nice city but it depends on what you are looking for. A lot of the expats are retired as jobs for expats are limited and don't pay much. There is an American VFW Post in Korat with over 100 members and the British Legion meets at the Ram Bar. I have 7 Ameicans, 1 German and I Japanese expat living within 3 blocks of my house. If you play golf there is a large group of expats that play weekly. A lot of expats go to the Check Inn, http://isaan.com/check-inn-pub-in-korat-nakhon-ratchasima/ and if you are in the Mall then check out the bar in the basement as there are usually some expats there. Good luck.

You can send me a pm and I will be happy to chat with you. We moved here seven months ago after five years in Hua Hin, but visited here many times. Bought a house and are quite content,if there is any big problem it is the heat, gets very hot here compared to Bkk, I lived there too.

Been in Korat over 5 years now. Not a ton of expats, but a good group that is pretty active(and growing). You won't be an alien here, but if your Thai is not the best,it may be a little tedious at times (restaurants/etc). Apartments/condos are readily available for Rent(western style), but quality depends on your budget. I own Century 21 Korat here and can help you find a place/talk about the different areas of town. And lastly, best way to get here is by private taxi/van(again depends on budget). Otherwise taking the bus is probably your 2nd best option(no flights right now, but new airline coming soon). PM me for further info/questions.

Cheers,

Ron

Hi Ron. Friend of mine owning 2 houses. One in Pattaya, one near Korat (Chakarat). Was built some 8 years ago for 3,5 million. Was there once = nice, big home. But far away from everything, he stays in his Pattaya home and has no more use for his Chakarat dwelling. Want's to sell but can not. Was built on "Family-Land" (NO land-papers), In the meantime 7 "Family-Members" are bickering over every square inch of the land. = Entire property is unsalable under these circumstances. Therefore, land office refuses to do a land-survey.

Since you run Century 21, how about turning this into a long term lease? I am sure, the "Family" will be bickering about it for the next 15 years.

But to be clear: Must be a Farang with Thai-Family already established and looking for a place away from any sort of "Hustle and Bustle" The nearest Tesco-Express will still be 15 km away.

Ron, if you see a possibility to convert the situation into a long term lease situation that is legally binding (despite of the bickering of 7 "Family Members"), don't hesitate to PM me.

If yes, I shall freely supply contact details concerning the seller by way of PM only, of course. (If seller willing), you will directly communicate with him henceforth. I would not be interested in any sort of kickback / commission scheme.I simply don't need it !

Cheers.

Someone should mention the terrible traffic in Korat because even on a motorbike it's a problem! There are many extremely long red lights and several of the intersections are utter chaos. Traffic doesn't bother me so much, but going to pick up the kids from school only a few KM away ends up being a 30 minute odyssey every single day.

If you do move, I would suggest renting forever because I don't feel that I could ever sell my house with a swimming pool at any price. New housing complexes are going up every single day, but I have no idea who lives or buys there????

Best of luck!
