hi'

I found XP long to shut-down even not using the system restore ...

so, I have been looking for something that could help, and I found on the web, someone who wrote about winXP services ...

I found this, it may help some :o

A too long stop of Windows XP?

Several persons noticed Windows XP could set a lot of time to stop.

Although it can result from numerous previous history, the owners of graphics boards NVidia are more particularly touched.

It is of for the service NVIDIA driver Helper Service run in the starting up of your computer and which has difficulty in stopping.

This service is of use to nothing.

To deactivate it, go in: start \ Control panel. In the window, double to click the module Administrative Tools, then Services.

Double click then the service NVIDIA driver Helper Service.

Make a right click on this service, and choose in the pop-up menu Stop.

Double to click this last one and to choose Type of starting up "Manual".

Validate.

Your computer will faster go then to go out and the memory used by this service will be freed.

try this if you use a video card with an nvidia chipset that use nvidia drivers , it works :D

at least for a couple of seconds less :D

Thanks for that one Francois.

I am running XP with a Nvidia card and your suggestion has speeded up the shut down by a lot more than 2 seconds.

Whilst we are on the subject of Nvidia cards, mine has a S-Video output which is connected to my TV S-Video input but the picture quality is bad.

I have set it to maximum resolution but it is still bad, any suggestions ?

hi'

welcome Thetyim :D

well, I had a few nvidia cards ... the first tv-out was on a gforce4 MX440 64mb,

the tv out was asvideo, and I had quite some "nerves" on it to setup a proper picture quality to watch video on tv :o

so, it has to be set at the max AGP Aperture Size (in the bios), normaly 256 ...

so, your card can give it's maximum, before gforce4 don't do so :D

with a gforce2 set at 128 for a 32mb card.

then the resolution of the tv output has to be in PAL.

and to try all this try it in clone mode to keep your screen on ... or put the tv close to you,

and one thing for sure, get the latest drivers from nvidia web-site, now version 56.64.

the monitor can be in any size, set the tv in 800x600 if you want to be able to read things on ... in 1024x768 for video watching, although a good 800x600 is very correct for a tv.

you might have to set he same resolution for both, in this case keep the nvidia icon in the taskbar, to be able to switch fast.

hopes it helps :D
