Where do you buy your bread?

Yamazaki +1, the fresh white bread probably one of the best but later on the day or next day I can't eat it anymore

Friendship (Tai) Best (Nua) if in the neighborhood there.

Big C extra, especially the baguettes when still fresh

Basement Central, the best, pity about inconvenient location

Foodland, unfortunately more due to convenience, not so much due to their quality.

Tulip at Soi Siam Country and the Thai bakery (that attract lots of its products from Big C extra) right across of Tulip

On the darkside?

The continental on Soi Khao Noi has wholemeal bread which whilst reasonable in taste is overpriced

The Tudor cafe on SSCC next to the traffic lights at Mikamon OKA the crocodile X road is also OK but the bread opposite at the bakery delicatessen next to the motorbike sales is better and cheaper

Having said that I brought two bread making machines over from the UK and its about time I made my own again, nothing like the taste of home made bread

Big C Extra has a nice selection of European breads, Best in Naklua has a good selection of German breads, French rolls and baguettes, as well as pita breads. Au Bon Pain does a nice whole wheat and multigrain loaves, and even the local Farmhouse breads available at "7" and elsewhere now does a thick slice whole wheat and 12-Grain loaves, which are nice for sandwiches.

still the best bread and pastries on the darkside - Baguette 89 on soi 89 near Aroi (which incidentally does the very best international buffet including welcome drink and desserts at B299 on a Wednesday)

The only European bread worth buying is from Bei Otto and sold at Friendship or Villa market. Also the German bakery Back Fabrik in Jomtien has excellent fresh bread, but more on the expensive side. All other bread types sold here are just not up to the standards we Scandinavians would call a bread.

Rather narrow minded to say, different people different strokes. Some of us don't like heavy German bread but don't tell others it's no good......

Is this something new from the usual sponge bread they sell?

Haven't seen it anywhere.

Its been around for a while, Foodland, "Seven," and anywhere that stocks Farmhouse breads gets some loaves of these as well. It's not up to artisenal bread standards but for grilled cheese or peanut butter and jelly sandwiches it fits the bill.

a bread map of pattaya in a sticky would be an excellent idea. Let's be realistic: We go for quality and also personal preferences but at the same time are likely to make some compromise on convenience. A good bakery in Jomtien will remain treat for someone living near Pattaya Klang and he/she is more likely to buy the bread at BigC. Another aspect is the price/quality relation. I find the bakery in BigC Extra still ok although not as good as in the past due to their price increases.

Yeah that's the stuff. Foodland definitely stocks it, and the whole wheat variety as well. If you don't know already, Foodland has a small bread section in the main part of the store where they sell breads from outside bakeries like Farmhouse...you won't find it at the bakery in front. (Top of the 1st isle from the dairy isle...near the sodas.) Most of the "Sevens" in my area also stock it. Very nice when fresh...sometimes I just eat a couple slices plain.

No problem , if you're from Scandinavia you would know what we miss here , the white bread or loaf is not really what we would call bread, especially if its full of sugar and other additives.

I have lived in the US and had to suffer through my studies, I ended up baking the bread myself.

Balo I too don't like bleached white heavily sugared bread but I believe here in Pattaya we now have a good selection of artisan bread, one of my favourites is a wholegrain Scandinavian bread that I buy from Friendship (I believe from the Flag on the packaging it's Danish). And if theres nothing I like the look of I will make my own, it maybe white but I know what's gone in to it.

Bakery at BigC extra, go a long way to beat their baguettes and breads, French baker still works there.

I agree. Their bread is the best. That's the BigC Extra on Pattaya Klang.

Yes, their bread and pastries taste exactly the same as they would if you had bought them from a Casino supermarket in France. It's uncanny. (Casino is the main name under which they trade in their home country of France: presumably they dont use it here because of the gambling connotations.)

The baker in the basement of Central is also very good but a fair bit more expensive.
