Trying to install Windows 10 with the media creation tool on a few months laptop running genuine win 8.1 (acer aspire switch 11)

It said architecture unsupported, please install the correct version for your system

So then I tried the 32bit even though I know the it's a 64bit cpu

It gives the unsupported error on both media creation tools (32 and 64)

I could probably make an iso or bootable usb but it's a someone else's laptop and I don't want to mess up her files and settings

Is there any workaround except format and fresh install it?

I've updated a few Laptops already which were all years old and 1 click update worked on them ALL and this one is nearly new and I assumed it would be the easiest....

I might just give it back to her and tell her to get it done in fortune for 100thb :)

I don't want to make backup images , bootables and burn isos and all that crap and later be "blamed" if something is not working etc

(1) Go to C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download

(2) Empty it

(3) Right-Click on Command Prompt and "Run as Administrator"

(4) Enter the command "wuauclt.exe /updatenow

(5) Do a Windows Update

The notice your receiving, "architecture unsupported, please install the correct version for your system", could be because your device contains an Intel Atom Z3745 1.33 GHz or Intel Core M processor, rather than an Intel i3 or i5 core processor.

Even though the literature says it's compatible and eligible for the free Windows 10 update, there have been complaints about the Acer Aspire Switch 11:

Microsoft Store | Acer Aspire Switch 11
Not Windows 10 compatable
I bought it 3 weeks ago and have pent most days of all of the 3 weeks full time trying to Upgrade to Windows 10. Finally gave it up and returned to Microsoft Store, as Microsoft technical help agreed that it can not be upgraded. A fine product if you wish to stay with Windows 8.1 But Trade Description issue!!! re win 10.
Avoid it, failed to upgrade to Windows 10 after nu
Avoid it, failed to upgrade to Windows 10 after numerous tries

Though, these instances could be just compounded user error.

You may want to try updated with Microsoft's Get Windows 10 App rather than Microsoft's Media Creation Tool, as all the necessary drivers may not be available through the Media Creation Tool.

From Microsoft Support:

  1. Make sure Windows Update is turned on - for instructions to turn on Automatic Updates, see Knowledge Base article 306525. Then check to see if the necessary updates are installed. To do this, from the Start menu or screen, search for cmd, right-click on Command Prompt in the results and select Run as administrator. Type or paste the command dism /online /get-packages | findstr 3035583 – if the update is installed, you will get a return with Package identity followed by a string of information. If nothing is returned, the update is not installed, and you need to check for updates and install it.

Windows 8.1: also run the commands:

dism /online /get-packages | findstr 2976978
dism /online /get-packages | findstr 2919355

If these are not installed, from the Start screen search for Check now, and select Check for updates to install those updates.

After you have completed all of these updates, reboot your device.

I have an Acer Aspire Switch 11 which I have upgraded successfully to W10 using the media creation tool, encountering no problems at all.
When it came from the shop it had windows 8.1 already installed, but I formatted and installed the pro version, this is what was upgraded to W10.

Which processor is your Acer Aspire Switch 11 using? (They seem to come in different flavors)

If your CPU is compatible then your problems are likely coming from the previous Windows installation. You could try backing up your data and doing a clean install if you feel confident enough to have a go at it.

I formatted and reinstalled Windows 10 last week (been using since March/April) via a bootable USB 3.0 flash-drive. Was done and finished in under 10 minutes (don't expect a time like that if you're not using a SSD).

Another great thing about this version is you don't need any special tools to create a bootable drive. Just copy the ISO files directly and you're good to go.

Sorry for the delayed response RichCor, it is only an i3 processor (Intel Core i3-4012Y CPU @ 1.50GHz) with 4 GB RAM.

As said earlier, the upgrade was done using the media creation tool method.

Thanks. Yea, I assume that an Intel Core i3-based device would upgrade fine.

If the OP's version of his Acer Aspire Switch 11 is based on Intel Atom processors then the "architecture unsupported, please install the correct version for your system" probably means the Microsoft Media Creation Tool can't be used with Intel Atom processor-based equipment.

I didn't find any mention on the Acer Support site mentioning the error.
