Please help! trying to opening a bank account

Featured Replies

Faz ....which branch of which bank do you work at . Everyone could come to you to get an account opened.

Your first comment .....................".Opening a bank account hasn't changed".

Is that a statement of fact ...........or just your belief.

This is Thailand ( T I T)................nothing stays the same for long here, the rules ,the procedures, the crackdown, the laws ,the government ......all Change regularly.

The simple fact is ...........it is harder to open an account now than it was 5 or 10yrs ago---even 1 yr ago.

The OP just wants to know how and where he can open an account TODAY.

Im not offering him any advice because it has all changed since I opened my accounts.

Novo58, with respect I disagree.

Some 6 years ago, I obtained an information leaflet from the BKK regards opening an account.

The information I posted in #34, taken from the BKK website is still the same.

You can open a Savings (with debit/ATM card) or Fixed term account on a Tourist Visa, provided you have a Passport, proof of address, and an introduction to the bank either by a responsible person or a letter from your Home bank or Embassy.

Current or Personal accounts are reserved for Thais, or foreigners with work permits or PR status.

The majority of the problems lye with the foreigner not producing the required documents, asking to open the wrong type of account (subject to their Immigration status), or poorly trained staff.

Look at the Banks website 'opening an account for foreigners', print it off, make sure you have the correct documentation and ask to open the right type of account and then it's their problem.

Indeed if anyone wants to open an account in Roi Et, I will happily take them to my back street Bangkok Bank branch and provided they have a Passport with valid Visa and proof of address, I can guarantee they will be able to open a Savings account and/or fixed term account.

Just what laws and procedures have changed?

By 'crackdown' I assume you mean the enforcement of laws that were already in place. Yes, that may be so, but it is not a change in laws or procedures.

The last time the Immigration laws were revised, by which we all stay here, was 36 years ago!

Or perhaps your referring to the Civil Registration Act, that was revised 7 years ago to allow foreigners to obtain their own Tabian Baan (house book).

Maybe the new Driving test requirements and the introduction of the new 2 year temporary licence (which applies to Thais as well as foreigners).

So which rules and laws pertaining to foreigners, have changed in the last 7 years that you can advise me of?
