Monk needs simple 3G mobile.

Featured Replies

Much like the old ones only for calls & sms. I had to insist on this, for emergency

Reason = his area is being cut off from G2. True Forest Monk

No 2nd hand solid

Is there DTAC coverage? They are not scheduled to cut 2G for awhile AFAIK

And with the number still using 2G I expect there may not be any cut any time soon for any service.

No clue, his forest temple is 40 km North of CM. But the info about the cut off date seems to official

There have been several official cut off dates so far - but there is still option to rent space to serve 2G and that could happen - what major event has ever occurred when scheduled?

What provider is he on?

As far as I remember AIS offers cheap "upgrade" phones in the 3-digit range.

Fair enough. I.

Fair enough. However, prefer acting anticipatory.

Any suggestions as to a solid 3G. I myself have been very impressed by my not so new HTC ONE. I dropped it several even on concrete & marble. Nothing even dented, broken.

May be cheaper now

Battery standby life along with durability I would suspect of most concern as forest monks are often without electric for extended periods.

I believe most of sub 1000 THB phones, the ones with small displays and physical keypads, are 3G capable/compatible.

These will go 5-7 days on a full battery charge. No need for a smartphone, especially if not accessing Internet.

On the other hand, I just bought a cheap i-Mobile IQ II (android one) smartphone for under 4,444 THB. Two or more days battery life easy. But then a lot of a smartphone's features require 3G/4G/LTE Internet or WiFi Internet connection.

Not sure most basic phones offer 3G - my Nokia (current model) does not.

Curious, what current model Nokia did you buy, that doesn't operate on the 3G network?

* Even though Nokia doesn't sell current model phones anymore (or yet) since the buyout from Microsoft

I just checked Nokia 105 as inexpensive and that is 2g only - mine (I think) is 220.

A June 2015 release phone with GSM 900/1800 only capability. Incredible.

Well, if you only need it to work with DTAC for a couple of years... I guess it continues to be a viable product to sell.

Then you don't need 3G phones at all.

Buy an old style 2G handset for THB 400 - THB 500 at Tesco Lotus or Big C.

If you don't like it you can return it within 7 days and obtain a full refund without any problem.

From the quote you posted: "Reason = his area is being cut off from G2." (SIC),

should read "...his area is being cut off from 2G"

Reading is fundamental.

Here the final outcome. Reluctantly my Monk agreed to enter Central Festival CM and was richly rewarded =

AIS had a promotion on=

Trade in Old mobile against brand new AIS smartphone for about 1000 b. Nice & small. I was happy to donate.

Thank you all for your input
