New Kodi / android TV user

After a little bit of deliberation I am hoping to remove the old laptop linked to the TV from the lounge and replace it with an android TV box ..

I currently get my movies and TV from 3 private torrent trackers and I have a seed box based in France.

I have used XBMC before to access movies stored on hard drives so am familiar with the setup .. Is there some builfs or repositories that I should look to start with, maybe some helpful site. I'm interested in just surfing some live UK TV from time to time. I'm not bothered about sports.

If I have DL's on the laptop is it possible to auto-sync those to my kodi content and stream through wifi ?

Also are there Thai repo's that stream live TV - hoping I can do away with my basic true package for the wife.

Any help or directions will be appreciated.

Get ilikeHDtv pay just for what you need, they have different plans to suit your needs, down load the app from Google play and you can pay with true money, I pay 450baht a month and get all the sport, movies, and entertainment I need.

Maybe it's criminal .. But I haven't paid to watch anything in years, don't intend to start paying another provider who steals it now. I just want to streamline / automate / tidy up the system.

One thing I'm keen to do, if I auto-dl something to my windows laptop, is there a feature in kodi where it will be added to a playlist, when I check in it will show me ?

ilikehd doesn't have the latest movies and TV shows. Kodi does. Google "Kodi" and "addons." You will find endless written and You Tube instructions concerning how to install Kodi and the various addons. You will find much more information through Google than by asking on TV.

Really, I'm impressed every time I read through the Tec section advice on TV, it seems we are all in the same boat and find little work arounds to make our life easier.

Yeah, thanks, I have tried google .. Like you say, endless .. I don't have endless amount of time. Thanks for that - I won't be trying ilikehd - how about suggesting an alternative, victor ?

The easiest set up for Kodi I have found is " andys Build " from www.kodimaster.com check out the website or just install the repo http://kodimaster.com/repo then use the setup wizard from the repo. Andys build is in the kodimaster builds section of the wizard. It's a fully loaded setup with UK live TV as well as a UK TV section for soaps etc. Just a note the andys build download program takes 15 to 20 minutes to download. After you download it you may want to enable opensubtitles from your addons menu as andys build has subscene and I find opensubtitles better. Also I woukd recommend turning off auto play in genisis and the one channel if your connection is slow.

Just to add you should download it on a clean install of Kodi

Perhaps you mean libraries. Kodi can handle this if you auto download the files to specific folders set up in Kodi libraries. I use it for TV programs and movies and Kodi scrapes the media synopses and artwork from generic internet based databases on the fly. Can get a bit unwieldy with thousands of movies, best save them in a suitable folder setup.

For Thai tv use ... Ilikehd ... The free to view section covers the local channels for wifey, the paid for sections cover everything on true and Cth starting at B450 per month I think.

For movies and programs on demand use .. Iflix ... Free for 30 days then B100 per month or B1000 per year.

Other stuff is available but I don't have time to watch more when Iv got ... YouTube... to watch for free.

You can get all of the above through your current set up. An android box makes it more convenient though. A must have extra for the android is a cordless mouse or an air mouse, the standard remote control is a frustrating bit of kit.post-223871-1449722144176_thumb.jpg

I have a seed box based in France.

Is it with OVH ? Do you mind sharing your setting ?

I had an OVH box a few years back then they went a bit crazy and basically threw all the seedbox resellers out .. I'm just getting back into it again, with the same reseller in the states, seedroots .. The guy is pretty cool and cheap.

What setting are you referring to ? I use an irc feed to auto-DL from BTN for TV select movies from PtP, I need to get the best path set up.

As said before, I'm no professional IT guy. Do you mind translating that in plain English ?

If you have a seedbox running rtorrent - it comes with an auto-DL function.

You need something to nudge the auto-DL into life, some trackers have RSS feeds others an IRC ( Internet relay chat ) channel .. Which contains the links to the torrent seeds. The IRC channel is pretty accurate and you can customize it to say, only down load specific shows with 5.1 720p mkv files.

You set it up with your favorite tv programs and every time they appear it's downloaded to your seedbox.

BTN and PtP are private trackers or torrent sites ..

I then use an FTP auto sync which just downloads the files from the seedbox while I'm out in the daytime.

I have been looking at some of the add-on feeds on Kodi - they are impressive, some look a little soft, maybe lower bit rate or frames per second.

The next thing for me is to see if their is a way to stream from the seedbox.

Thanks for the time spent to answer my question. If you don't mind I may come back to you later with more question regarding specific download. So far I knew only of sickbeard but it has restriction on its own.

It is a shame that Kodi have still not fixed the bug when using passthru for 5.1 sound

I was thinking that I wasn't getting 5.1 even though I had it set on pass through.

Thanks for confirming.

kodi passes thru 5.1 both dts and dolby digital flawlessly. i have no issues with it at all, just enable it in system.

I have passthrough selected and never experienced a problem.

Though I recall I had to deselect Stereo upmix, as it gave me issues.

The author of Sickbeard (and other fine apps) introduced his then new TV Tumbler a few years ago and it is 10 times easier to use than the "sicks" and very easy to maintain (I use an old XBMC 12.0 Ubuntu box for it) - here is the old/september 2013 original link for it http://brickybox.com/2013/09/08/introducing-tvtumbler

Try Kinkheadtech.com

This guy has several work arounds to synch up video librarys on differant devices so that they are all available from within KODI. He explains how you can be watching a movie in one room from device A, go to a differant room with device B and pick up the movie from where you paused it on device A.

I have the same Android Box (CS918-KR42). I purchased it months ago but just now got around to installing it and was reviewing older Kodi threads on this forum for tips. For instance, until I saw the picture you posted, I had no idea there was a USB port on the side, I was using a rear port for my air mouse; better response from the side. So far, it seems to be working fairly well on my 12mb ADSL (Bangkok) even though the phone line is not very good.

It seems the only way to actually turn this box off is to pull the power plug. Is this correct or have I missed something? The "Power" button in front just seems to go into standby.

Mine also seems to run very hot on the bottom. Not smoking hot but hot to the touch. Is this normal? I set mine up on some little risers so more air would circulate below.

Yes they get hot, good ventilation is needed but in the year Iv been using it it's never caused a problem. The turn off is on the bottom left of the home screen, a pop up asks you to confirm the shut down

It's the part circle with the vertical line cutting it.

We are way off topic so if I can help more please PM me.
