Julian Assange to be questioned by Sweden

LONDON: -- Ecuador has agreed to allow Wikileaks founder Julian Assange to be questioned by the Swedish authorities at the Ecuadorean embassy in London.

Mr Assange took refuge there three years ago to avoid extradition to Sweden on charges of sexual assault against two women in 2010.

He denies the accusations and says he fears Sweden would extradite him to the United States for possible trial there.

In 2010 Wikileaks published a huge number of US classified documents.

At last! This makes complete logical sense and is after all 100% correct in terms of following due process of law. The rules are clear and Assange was happy to abide by them. He reported to the police in Sweden, he was questioned and released and on return to the UK he made himself available for further questioning by Swedish authorities, but for some exceptional reason they insisted he was returned to Sweden for questioning. That is not in the provisions of EU law. Now it appears someone in Sweden is complying with lawful due process.

Assange's agreement to be questioned by Sweden doesn't change anything.

If Sweden authorities decide there's no rape charges, he stays at the Ecuadorian embassy.

If Sweden charges him with rape, he stays at the Eucadorian embassy. Sweden would have to request extradition from both the Ecuadorian embassy and the UK.

Whether the USA might also charge him with a federal crime and request extradition is irrelevant with regard to his questioning by Sweden.

If Sweden decide there is no rape, he could walk out and fly to safe country. (at least theoretically)

Ecuador signs deal with Sweden for Assange questioning

LONDON: -- Ecuador and Sweden have agreed to allow WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange to be questioned by Swedish authorities at Ecuador’s embassy in London where he’s been holed up for three years.

Assange is facing sexual assault charges and fears extradition to Sweden who might send him to the US where he could be put on trial over the publication of classified military and diplomatic documents five years ago. It was the one of the largest leaks in US history.

Assange denies the charges of sexual assault and rape against two women in 2010.

Britain, which has accused Ecuador of preventing the course of justice by allowing Assange to remain at its London embassy, has welcomed the move.

Sweden should have done this long ago after it brought back charges that had already been dismissed. Bet your bottom dollar Assange would be in a Fed Max security within a few days if he went to Sweden and no matter where he goes, the US empire is coming after him. They want him and all whistle blowers silenced, permanently.

And a succession of Australian Foreign Ministers have let him down. This is just to appease a bunch of idiots who allowed a sexually confused young person access to thousands of documents despite his lowly rank.
