Hello,

I am moving to Thailand and will arrive in Ubon next week.

Although I have travelled extensively in SE Asia, this is the first time I will actually live here, and this is my first post in this forum.

I'm in my mid-thirties, and will be based in Ubon writing about Isaan, Laos and Cambodia for German language publications.

Anyway, just wanted to say hi, and as this will be my first Christmas in Ubon, I would appreciate any tips on a good place to celebrate it as well as hooking up with good people. And of course, any advice about living in Ubon would be most welcome.

I wish you all a good day.

There is a great hotel called the Bliss Ubon. The owner, a Frenchman (Thai wife) is a really great guy to know. Stop in and say hi...he may have some suggestions as to Christmas.

Hi Jamie

There are a fair number of good places in Ubon of various types. I have always found The Outside Inn to be a very welcoming place and you will also likely meet some guys and gals nearer your age group.

Best of luck from a 'neighbor' in Sisaket.

You could also have some good International food at "Peppers" on the way to the airport. Delicious German and International food. Owner speaks Germish, as well.

Then, of course, the Outside Inn, the Wrong Way Cafe and if you like pizza, please don't forget to visit Mr. Don Corleone,,,aehh Spago, a real Italian restaurant with the best pizzas and pasta, I ever had in my 15 years of living in Thailand. (Isaan)

And there're some more nice places waiting for you. Welcome to the northeast, with plenty of nice people and a great way of life. Same same, but different.. coffee1.gif

Greetings from a guy whose place of birth was bought by the barbaric Bavarians also called "Lower Franconia."

If you need some great ideas, please do not hesitate to page me.

Please please please please please please don't be Bayern Munich fan smile.png

I'm afraid he is. Not too many of these barbaric Bavarians like Borussia. biggrin.png

Just using my imagination now. The guy walks in your place fully dressed in a "Bayern Munich fan dress" and you guys start arguing......lol cheesy.gif

And you might experience the guy's Wolpertinger attacking you....

These Wolpertinger also exist in Sisaket, we've got three. One just gave birth to seven sweet little Wolpies...biggrin.png
