Thai version F48 sDrive18d is 150HP/330Nm and does 0-100 in 9.2s:

http://www.bmw.co.th/th/en/newvehicles/x/x1/2015/showroom/technical_data.html

The GLA250 is 160K cheaper, makes 211HP/350Nm and does 0-100 in 6.6s

So one's a shopping cart, the other is fun. Game over X1.

Come July it'll be 140k more than an X1. Haven't driven the new X1 yet but I really didn't enjoy the GLA at all.

Not realy.

1. Its differend handling( can say near bmw handeling its only E sersame spec)

But another its so far.

We not talk about wild car(m or amg)

Gla so far from perfect handling.

PS

I am not buy X1 1.8d for slow axeleration.

But have different IMHO.;)

Fun ots not only acseleration.

Handeling can give alot FUN at 60-100km

The GLA and X1 are quiet different. The GLA250 is smaller and a lot more sporty. The X1 is more conservative and more practical.

The GLA handling is fine unless trying to use all 211 hp on a slow corner when FWD and physics push the traction control. The X1 would suffer the same fate if it had enough power to get to that point.

The GLA250 certainly has some faults but at least it is interesting an fun. It is more of a hot hatch than SUV / cross over.

Not sure who would buy the X1 other than BM fans. The transmission is probably less annoying than the GLA and the fuel consumption better but If I wanted a small conservative, practical wagon, I would buy a HR-V or CX-5 and keep the change.

price rumours for the CKD version July 2016

1. Bt 2,349,000.00 X1 1.8i

2. Bt 2,499,000.00. X Line 18d

3. Bt 2,699,000.00. X1 1.8d M Sport

If those prices are real, that means the base model is almost 20% more expensive than the outgoing, fully imported equiv. (1,999,000 Baht). Makes no sense.

Checked and this is apparently the pricing BMW want to go with, but not finalised yet. If true I won't be getting this as my commute car anymore. I know that the X1 prices worldwide have gone up, but not by this much.

Looking at the CBU model it has extra features that if available across all CKD models would be great. 8.8inch iDrive, Xline trim interior with matt wood finish, HUD, and active parking assist. Leather seats I'm not sure if they were real or faux when I sat in them.

Things that were missing and would have to be included to make CKD pricing more bearable included electric tailgate, electric switches to drop rear seats, adjustable rear seat rails, rear seat air vents, climate control

just back from a test drive with the X1 18d at Pattaya branch, overall nice driving experience,

pros: low cabin noise level, even only 150hp never felt under powered due to plenty of diesel torque, not to stiff suspension in comfort driving mode, nice head up display and 8.8'' navi display, interior design very nice with stiched leather, nice color combination and wood panels

cons: 2.59 MTHB definitely at least 300k to high, only marginal support from the small front seats, only manual a/c, no rear a/c vents and no electric tail gate, no adjustable rear seat rails

Unfortunately the Thai X-1 is an an underpowered car with old technology. But is popular because it is a BMW...

The Germans cars in Thailand are often low spec, so that they are not too expensive. So why not try another brand - made in Thailand?

What Thai built cars would you say are in the same segment? Focus/Civic/Bangkok Taxi?

The standout answer to that question is the Mercedes Benz GLA ;)

The X1 is a premium compact crossover - no other Thai made car fits the description.

Like the Juke and the Ecosport, it's just too small to be considered in the same class, IMHO.

It also isn't what you'd call premium - just look at the interior materials, panel gaps, paint etc.

Mercedes Benz and BMW don't have - or no more have - premium quality. Read the US consumer reports where the Benz A and C class get a very bad quality reports.

These cars are mostly bought in Thailand to show «I am rich». Compared to the new Mazda CX-5, the X-1 is smaller, less powerful and has outdated technology.

As long as it's the black interior, the CX3 in the flesh looks surprisingly premium IMO. Ok not in the BMWs class but not that far off. What really lets it down is rear leg room. Maybe Mazda could do a long wheelbase version..

The Mazda CX-3 is significant smaller than then X-1. The CX-3 is in the class with the Honda H-RV, Ford Ecosport and Nissan Juke. But the CX-3 is more a sporty crossover than SUV. The space in the back is quite good. The boot space is limited, indeed.

The CX-5 is between the X1 and the X-3, similar size than the Honda C-RV or the Nissan X-Trail. The new CX-5 has got a facelift, but it's interior is not as «modern» as the CX-3. The CX-5 is the first vehicle of the Kodo/Skyactiv family. I assume, that the next generation CX-5 will get a completely new interior.

The internet shows pictures of an upcoming «CX-4», which is a sporty «crossover/waggon» variant of the CX-5. It seems, that Mazda goes the same way as BMW, which has invented this category with the X6 and the X4.

We both own the CX-3 and have replaced the old CX-5 with the new general. The reasons were a god over from Mazda and the quite improved safety features. We are very satisfied Mazda owners since 2008.

Perhaps the Premium tag refers to more to the brand than quality.

Quality all depends on your definition. US consumer reports like JD Power are usually based on defect counts per 100 vehicles for a short period after the car is delivered. Simple cars with mature technology, thorough pre-delivery and low buyer expectations are going to win. MB and BM tend to adopt new technology faster and be more complicated than the

The import protection policies in LOS and marketing by MB and BM result in these brands being priced at ridiculous levels compared to the mid market brands. So far, the Germans have done a remarkable job of convincing a lot of LOS car buyers they should pay the ridiculous premium. Last year MB and BM sold 20,000 cars combined and were 6th and 7th (4% and 3%) of the LOS car sales. Clearly an X1 is not worth 2.5 HR-Vs so it will be a good test of how far BM can push this.

Yes, many are no doubt buying for the badge image, but some are also prepared to pay a premium not to have a dull FWD Japanese car. Then there is the small group prepared to pay a huge amount of tax for a higher performance car. Probably not very logical for the general driving conditions here but clearly not everyone buys on logic.

A lot of what Jitar says is true - a good % of the "premium" label is on brand cache, some of it is attributed because of the excellent service and facilities they user offer too.

But OTOH, there's simply no question that Benz's, BMW's, Range Rovers, Porsche's etc use higher quality materials*, have better panel gaps, better paint, etc, etc than the mainstream Japanese cars we see here.

* Excludes MB-Tex :P

I doubt many buyers pay the premium for MB / BM models for nicer paint and panel gaps. The interiors of the bottom end models like A class / X1 etc are OK but the quality and materials are not that far from a good Honda. However these cars feel nicer on the road than cheaper Japanese competitors courtesy of better balance, steering and firmer suspension tuning. They are also less common and have the cache of prestige etc. So buyers pay a lot and get a little, excellent marketing by the Germans.

It's more the protective Thai tax than the German's marketing strategies making the German cars in Thailand expensive.

A class / X1 in Germany = 900,000 THB cheap charlie cars
