Hands= Winter cracks

Featured Replies

See photo showing 2 fingers from each hand one. Perfect to catch infection. Normal creams no help. Suggestions?

What will really work, but may be a little uncomfortable, is to apply a thick coat of vaseline every night and cover with plastic gloves or plastic wrap. Then thinner layer in the daytime, though will make your hands rather greasy.

Short of that Nivea cream - not the lotion but the actual lanolin cream sold in the round tins - is good.

use a chap stick,on the cracks

works wonders,clears them up in a few days

A moisturising lotion works for me or if it's that intense, apply petroleum jelly and wear a pair of thin gloves or something overnight.

Bacitracin or neosporin,,, a broad spectrum Antibiotic ointment would help.

"For thousands of years, people have used the gel from aloe vera leaves for healing and softening the skin.

Research backs up the ancient use of topical aloe vera as a skin treatment, at least for specific conditions. Studies have shown that aloe gel might be effective in treating psoriasis, seborrhea, dandruff, and minor burns and skin abrasions, as well as radiation-induced skin injuries. Aloe gel also seems helpful in treating the sores caused by genital herpes in men."

I get dry skin on my hands sometimes, though not nearly as bad as yours. I recently got an aloe vera gel from a pharmacy in Viet Nam, so I imagine it's available in Thailand too or wherever you are now. It's called Aloera from Paradigm Pharma Nutraceuticals.

I get this in very cold climates, however don't suffer from it in Thailand. I treat it in the following way:

  • Cut off the hard skin surrounding the lesion with nail clippers
  • Cover the lesion with a plastic skin. I use a thick Germolene plastic skin (I'm not sure what's available in Thailand) that acts like a glue to seal the would.

Just using moisturizing cream doesn't fix it, however once the lesion has healed, you need to moisturize as a preventative measure. My hand cream of choice is L'occitane shae butter, which is available in Bangkok (and I imagine may be available in larger metropolises in Thailand).
