Thailand and Cambodia don't process your application - Liverpool do.

Applying from Thailand is not "bad". My son's passport took 2 weeks and the communication from both Liverpool (where it's issued), DHL for tracking and VFS in Bangkok for collection were exemplary.

I've just done this myself a week ago. I sent:

1. Completed (with black ink) and countersigned application form.

2. 2 of 35mm ☓ 45mm photo. 1 photo endorsed.

3. Colour copy of my passport (every page).

4. Colour copy of my wife's passport (every page).

* Note: If either of you has recently renewed your passport, also include a full copy of your previous passport, as HMPO wants to see both your passports at the time of conception (just to try and check if you were both in the same country at the relevant time).

5.Copy of my wife's and son's blue house book entries, plus translations.

6. Copy of my yellow house book, plus translation.

7. Copy of my driving license.

8. Copy of my long form birth certificate.

9. Copy of my wife's birth certificate plus translation.

10. Copy of my son's birth certificate, plus translation.

11. Copy of our marriage certificate plus translation.

12. Copies of dated family photos, with myself, my wife and my son named on the photos.

*13. Colour copy of your child's Thai passport, if they have one. This is not mandatory, so if your child doesn't have a Thai passport you can skip this.

14. Completed payment form.

Note that a British, Irish, Commonwealth or US citizen can countersign the application and endorse the photo as long as they have known you for 2 years and they are from a recognised profession. A medical doctor is no longer a recognised profession unless they know you personally as a friend and they state this in Section 8.

Applications with British and Irish countersignatories will be processed faster.

For me, everything went very smoothly. The passport arrived about 2 weeks after the application at Trendy.

I'm hoping to go through this process in a couple of months, did you need to take the child to Trendy in person?

as well as all the colour copies, did you need to tak the originals for them to see?

I suppose I will need a translated copy of my divorce cert instead if marriage (probs take both)

You definitely don't need to take your child.

I did take all originals but they didn't ask to see them. Sods law if you don't take them though...

You need translations of everything not in English (or Welsh, if that applies).

Would you recommend using an agent to get all this done without headaches or was it pretty simple and easy to do mate?

I need to do this myself for my 10 year old daughter so any details to make this smooth sailing is much appreciated.

It's pointless using an agent. You have to supply all the documents - every single one. All the agent does is walk into the building and hand them in. The only thing they can help you with is translations, which are very easy to organise.

 

The best advice I can give is to be certain you have provided everything on the list, with translations of any Thai documents.

Thanks for that, I just mentioned on another post I'd need an agent but after what you've just told me I won't bother.

Once you have all your documents together you will have some that are in Thai. There are some translation companies you can send pictures to (by email or line app), deposit their payment into their bank account and they do the translations and EMS them to you.

 

No need to even visit them. Saves loads of time and hassle.

It's pointless using an agent. You have to supply all the documents - every single one. All the agent does is walk into the building and hand them in. The only thing they can help you with is translations, which are very easy to organise.

I agree. The only reason for using an agent is for the convenience of not having to make the journey to Bangkok to submit the application or if, like me, there is question over your citizenship status (I was born in Africa) which could prevent you passing on your citizenship to your child. I used a specialist, qualified agent who helped to ensure that all the ticks were crossed. In retrospect, I could have easily done it myself, but I still don't regret the peace of mind that using an agent gave me.
