Ah, what about those Ugihurs (forgot how to spell)... they came from China. And of course only peaceful Thai loving Muslims in Malaysia. Danger from Scandinavia is boring folks to death I reckon

Scandinavians are generally very nice people.

However,do you remember the guy who gunned down about 100 kids a few years ago on that island off Norway (Sweden?).

There's always an exception to the rule.

But he said the airport has no additional power backup system which is normally necessary for all airports.

This is therefore an abnormal airport

No security concern as 3,000 tourists entering the country without security check

BANGKOK: -- The director-general of the Airport's Department and acting director of the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand assured yesterday of no security concern after Krabi international airport allowed about 3,000 tourists to enter the country without computer screening checks during a six-hour power blackout at the airport.

Mr Chula Sukmanop said most of the 3,000 tourists came on chartered flights in group tours with certified tour companies.

Besides they are mostly Scandinavians, Chinese and Malaysians, he said.

Therefore this could not cause a security concern, he said.

He said the blackout was caused by error on the power backup system which could still keep on functioning for only two hours after the blackout.

But he said the airport has no additional power backup system which is normally necessary for all airports.

However he said that the incident has prompted the need to check power backup systems of all airports with both domestic and international flights as in near future these airports are expected ton receive higher number of visitors.

They include Krabi, Udon Thani, and Surat Thani, he added.

The power blackout hit Krabi airport since 10 am. Power supply was restored six hours later, during which 10 flights with about 3,000 tourists arriving.

"Therefore, this could not cause a security concern, he said". With assurances like this from anyone involved in the Thai aviation industries, what could possibly go wrong?

candles!

Surely some torches or similar could be found or bought.

Candles are a serious fire risk:

- The building full of hundreds of people!

- Official records and documentation everywhere!

No further comment needed.

Mai pben rai...

What a stupid, ignorant, childish, head in the sand comment to make. And they think we are the stupid ones.

Trying to run before they have learned to walk! coffee1.gif

...and that is the same BS they try to sell as when it comes to air safety

Let us hope that the ICAO is watching this event - as soon as they have stopped laughing about the Maesot landing excuses investigation.

Oh and don't worry I never see tour groups stand in front of an Immigration officer because the tour companies just bring the tourist's passports up to the desk for stamping in and out. So what difference does it make if the computers are up or down?

It is and it stays a third world country...

Damage control for a tarnished image, that continues to build up resistance to polishing.

I have a suggestion if this is a proven fact (and not just yet another stupid statement.....my tongue firmly in cheek when I suggest ) If this particular group are not a "a security concern" why not give them separate lines at all entry points to Thailand should rapidly improve Immigration / customs entry times for all those coming here that are security concerns ..wai2.gif

No concern? The majority of Malaysians are Muslims and Scandinavian countries, notably Sweden and Denmark, have large communities of immigrants from Islamic countries. China is home to militant Uighurs, believed to be behind the Erewan Shrine bomb blast in Bangkok.

So just keep your fingers and toes crossed.

Jai yen yen

You think too mut

Apply some logic, we haven't used candles before therefore they can't be dangerous!

Blackout or no blackout seems many criminals seem to find their way to Thailand !whistling.gif

Wasn't there something in the news lately about radical muslims being told to shave off their beards and wear western dress?

  • 3 weeks later...

No, there wasn't, but even if there had been, it would not have prevented the power failure at Krabi airport.
