Looking for Female English Speaking Gynecologist in Bangkok

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

I've spent a good amount of time looking at the forums regarding female gynecologists in Bangkok. I'm looking for an English speaking female gynecologist. My problem is nothing major, but I've had some tests done in the US that were not conclusive and I am looking for a second opinion now that I am here for a bit. All the advice says to go to Bumrungrad International Women's center. However the forums are all dated so I was just wondering if this was still the best place to go. Also, if someone had a recommendation on a specific doctor to make my appointment with that would be very helpful.

There are no prices online so I am curious to know what would be the cost, for example, for a pap smear. I don't have any insurance of any kind. Any advice is most helpful.

Thank you all in advance.

Suspect you may not want to use that facility without insurance - there are good doctors at many hospitals where both there service and any tests will be much less expensive.

There is no best "place" just best doctors. Ob-Gyns here tend to have sub-specialties so it would help to know what exactly the issue is.

Also just how set are you on the gender issue? The reason I ask is that if the issue is a suspect/possible malignancy vs functional cyst (or something of that sort) the best doctors for that in Thailand are male. The English speaking is no problem, I can recommend doctors who trained in the US and are fluent. But would find it hard to recommend a female specialist on gyn oncology which may be what you need.

A consultation with a good specialist will cost around 1000 - 1500 baht, pap smear anywhere from 1,000 to about 2,500 depending on hospital. A vaginal ultrasound if needed, maybe another 1,000-2,000 again depending on hospital. So even at the top end you are not looking at a huge amount.

I'm very set on having a female doctor. I just had a test done to check my hormones and it was negative, but I am inclined to seek further opinions. I have some melasma on my face and I'm not on the pill or near menopause so I want a second opinion. No cyst things or anything like that. I've always seen a woman and that is what I would like. I really don't mind where it is, just a clean place with a good record. And it has to be a woman. Just a regular obgyn should do just fine.

Anyone who can recommend a good one would be much appreciated. Thank you all again.

Could you recommend an affordable obgyn at another location? Thank you.

Sheryl just offered to recommend the best ones in the country.... But you are essentially saying you would rather settle for second best because they are male? Really?

In that case... You can probably just look on the website of any of the big international hospitals here and select a women. They will all speak English if it is an international hospital.

"Just a regular Ob-Gyn" is not going to be fine if the problem is some type of hormonal imbalance or question of early menopause, not in Thailand. Can you clarify what the hormone issue was? As hormonal disorders/ menopause too is here a sub-specialty.

I am also not clear why you want an Ob-GYN for melasma? that would normally be managed by a dermatologist. Or are you just wanting a routine Pap smear, unrelated to the melasma issue? In which case many hospitals have packages/promotions.

It sounds rather like your problem is melasma and you had hormone levels measured to see if that was the cause and they came back normal. If so I don't think seeing an Ob-Gyn will be of any help, they are not the ones here who treat melasma (which is a common problem in Thais).

HI Sheryl,

Like I said, I don't know what the issue is. I had one test and it was negative, so I would like a second opinion. I have been to a dermatologist. They have asked me to go back to an obgyn to get further testing. If I could I would go back to the obygn I saw before, but I don't live there anymore and I cannot. So since Melasma isn't 'cured' per se, and it always comes back, I would like to have a second opinion to see what kind of other tests I can have done to see what the problem might be. I'm too young to have menopause. And the melasma is getting worse. Therefore I want to go back to an obgyn to have further tests done and speak to someone new. I know obgyns don't treat melasma but I need to get to the cause of it before I go back to a dermatologist. I was just looking for a recommendation for one, I didn't realize they were so specialized here. I never post on these forums because I don't like how people attack each other- not saying this is the case with you, just that I was hesitant to post here. I appreciate any advice you could give me. Again, I don't know what my issue is beyond what I've written here so I can't be more helpful, that is why I was asking for help. Thank you for taking the time to explain things to me. Maybe you will know a woman doctor I could see.

Please, inbangkok,

I was very hesitant to post on this forum because of exactly the negative attacking responses. It is my personal preference to see a woman and there is nothing wrong with that. I don't have to explain myself to you. Also, I could look at any website of any big hospital. But this forum exists for a reason. So that people can ask questions without the sarcastic answers or attacking replies. I posted here to get a recommendation for something. I am sure someone knows of a female doctor I could go to. That is my right. I'm sorry if this offended you enough to write that response. I don't really need that kind of advice from you though. So thank you, but if you don't have the advice a person is looking for, and you just want to write something sarcastic, please save it for someone else. This is why I didn't even want to post here. Sheryl can write me, as she has again, and explain herself and her advice to me without you imputing your useless reply. Just be nice or don't say anything at all. I respect everyone and I expect the same. Thank you for your time.

My reply was far from useless.....However I am so, so sorry it was not up to your standards.

You said you are looking for any "regular Obgyn" given that they speak English. Therefore, I suggested visiting the website of an international hospital given that the Dr's will speak English and you can select a female. Not only that, but Bumrungrad for instance has very detailed info about the Dr's they employee including where they graduated, overseas training, specialty, experience, etc. This makes perfect sense considering you are not interested in the best Dr's available considering they are the wrong gender. Dr's at Bumrungrad or Phaya Thai are generally pretty good.... And you are the one who said any regular one is fine as long as they are a women and speak English. Yeah..... Silly me and my stupid advice.

Truce, please.

it is far from easy to identify what she needs from hospital websites, in fact I am trying and so far with no luck (but will keep at it Mica and let you know).

Not many Thai Ob-Gyns focus on hormonal problems.

Mica,

There's also Yanhee hospital in BKK if you're not feeling 100% with previous proposals.

Even so, you can chat online anonymously with their medical staff if you have specific questions which you should not have to ask or explain over here. You can ask about pricing prior to consultation.

http://yanhee.net/ob-gyne-center

One of their senior female ob-gyn has 30 years experience. Long enough to be able to make additional hormone tests. And she speaks English.

Good luck !

Mica,

this is the only female OB-Gyn I have found who looks likely to have expertise in hormonal matters

https://www.bnhhospital.com/en/find_doctor/detail/324

She is US board certified so her English will be fluent.

As I trust you know, Melasma is not always due to a hormonal imbalance. So while you can repeat a hormone panel do not be surprised if it comes back normal.

Hi again Sheryl,

Yes Melasma is a confusing sob. Thank you so very much for searching so much for me. I will report back afterwards. You've been such a big help. Thank you so so much.

Nothing to add apart from a link which provides good, referenced, information about Melasma.
