CM airport safety and Laos Visa

Featured Replies

I've 2 questions please.

1. Is it safe for a single woman to take airport taxi after midnight in Chiang Mai?

2. Arriving on 30 days VOA, not a G7 passport. What's the easiest and cheapest route to get to Laos from CM to obtain a SETA? She wants to stay here until early May.

1. I would assume it would be safe. Problems are a rarity.

2. I think she would be getting a 30 day visa exempt entry that can be extended for 30 days at an immigration office. Visas on arrival are only for 15 days after paying 1000 baht for it and is only for those from about 17 countries.

If she qualifies for a visa exempt entry it and the 30 day extension should be enough for most of her stay dependent upon when she arrives in the country. If not she could go to the Chiang Khong crossing to get a 15 day entry that can be extended for 30 days.

If she wanted to get a single entry tourist visa in Vientiane the easiest way would be to fly from Chiang Mai to Udon Thani and then take a van to the bridge in Nong Khai. Or she could take a bus to Nong Khai or Udon Thani.
