  • Money in the street case turned on its head - Thai man who lost 50K is suspected ya ba dealer who police trick into giving himself up!

CHIANG MAI:-- The case of the Thai man who lost 50,000 baht in a Chiang Mai street took an interesting turn Wednesday, reports Thaivisa News.

Neighbouring cops saw his face on the news and social media and realised he was wanted for dealing ya ba!

Wuthipong Bunta, 25, had reported the money missing to Chang Pheuak police in the hope of retrieving it Tuesday. He had failed to zip up a money belt. Indeed, the story originally was that a good samaritan woman had returned some of it after people were seen in photos collecting the cash. He was photographed all smiles with the woman.

However, police had their doubts about Wuthipong and officers in Chiang Mai called in to claim he was wanted in connection with being a dealer in a drugs case dating back to last month.

Cunning officers asked him to come in to give further details about losing the money as anyone finding it and not returning it might be charged with theft.

When he came in they realised there was indeed an arrest warrant out for him and he was arrested. He was charged with possession of a Class 1 drug with intent to sell.

Chiang Mai police has suspected he was dealing in February and detectives had set up a sting operation in Pa Daet in downtown Chiang Mai on the 13th. Wuthipong had turned up on a motorbike with a woman with 20 ya ba worth 2,800 baht but the operation was bungled and he managed to escape with his accomplice. An arrest warrant was issued.

Nothing happened until his smiling face was plastered all over the news and social media as he reported the loss of his 50,000 baht and got some back off the kind good samaritan but was ultimately tricked into giving himself up.

....hope the person who collected the money for him is not an accomplice....

...do they know each other......

They should return the money to the Good Samaritan.

egg on faces of some TV commentors, as I mentioned .... he's lucky I wasn't following him and I said the story was hard to believe ....

They should return the money to the Good Samaritan.

And the drugs too.

Another contender for a Darwin Award.cheesy.gif
