New Motorbike Licences?

Featured Replies

My Thai son told me that he has heard that the government are planning to bring in a new type of Motorbike licence and test for larger bikes, apparently it will apply to anything 400CC and over, has anyone else heard about this?

No but if it's true it's long over due and something I fully agree with.

They have Motorbike licence in Thailand? hahahahaaha

i don't get it

The government this month has been investigating into a new license for bikes over 400cc and a riding age of over 18 for these bikes.

Something about big bike accident statistics being high due to most bieng riden by teenagers still in high school.

Personally i dont see it making a big differnce. The age limit would be a good thing but the test is only one half of the problem. Theres only so much you can learn in a car park. I appreciate that bike handling is essential to learn but higher speed conering and hazard perception and defensive riding will keep you alive just as long. i feel these things need to be learnt on the street with a pro behind you telling you that your doing wrong but this is not an option here you wither have a license or you dont. There is no L plate like in parts of europe.

And lets be honest whats the point in all of this when people can pay 500 bht because "i left my license at home"
