Featured Replies

I have on good authority that all the business, except for Bic C supermarket, have shut down due to the impending remodeling/renovation of the place. Can anyone confirm?

Looks like you source is right.

We went yesterday and was told; closed and had to find another place to do my banking.

I don't know what will happen to the place, we liked it there, some good restaurants/shops.

According to long running rumours the place will be renovated. First rumour is from two years ago. Can anybody confirm ?

I would have thought the supermarket part was the most in need of remodeling/renovation. Have to admit that I haven't been there in months so maybe the "magic" already took place in my absence??.

I usually go to Big C Extra because the supermarket is so much better than the older Pattaya Nua version/

With the new Terminal 21 Mall to be built just a few minutes walk away, I wonder what future there is for a small mall so close? The BigC supermarket part might have a future if it was bigger and had full bakery, deli, meat, fish sections etc, all depending on what supermarket (if any) will be in Terminal 21.

Have a look at the time the postings were made....

It most definitely is being renovated. My hair salon has moved across the road until renovations are complete in 9 months - January, 2017. I believe the supermarket and cinemas will remain open.

It would seem Pattaya can never have too much of anything... although I do know of 2 Family Marts which closed.

There are numerous banners along the road on the southern side of the property saying they apologise for the inconvenience during renovation but the big C itself will remain open and that customers should use what used to be the rear entrance.

but I don't think it will be a very pleasant experience to shop there because there are so many tourist buses in that area and it looked to me like they have closed off a big part of the car park.

Went yesterday - only supermarket open; everything else cordoned off with dust sheets & no air con. Not a pleasant experience.

I first visited Pattaya in 2004. That big C Nua was all the mall I needed. Enough movies in the theater both Thai and western, the tabletop barbecue place was fine, the sushi place was fine. The little Dairy Queen was fine for a 69 baht banana split for desert. Never bought much in the mall area. I just don't need much. I don't need any more malls or upgrades, but some Pattaya investors seem determined to throw money into such projects

Uhm Im confused. Is there another Central Festival Im not aware of. Isn't Central in Pattaya Klang?

I just heard about the T 21 going in.

That is awesome I hope it is the same as BKK with a Cinema and food court.

It will be the #1 place to hang out I bet.

The one on Klang is called "Central Festival Pattaya Beach"

the one at North Pattaya is "Central Festival something else I've forgotten as its been so long since I went there"

but also known as Big C North Pattaya

I'm in T21 in BKK now. It's a cracking mall, great food court. Bring it on I say, you can never have enough malls!

Central Festival IS NOT Big C

Central Festival is the new mall that is between 2nd Rd and Beach Rd. There is only one Central Festival.

There are three Big C malls. One on 2nd Rd that is now being renovated, One on Sukhumvit, and one on Pattya Klang (Formerly Carre Four)

It is another Mall where getting there and parking with a vehicle is nearly impossible except early. So doing the weekly shop there is not going to happen, easier to go to BigC-X or Tesco. Many Malls start off with plenty parking but ultimately rent out a large percentage of the space to stall holders. I don't use Big-CX any-more for this reason, obviously along with the congestion caused by the tunnel construction. In fact, anyone living out of town on the North side I might recommend using Harbor Mall, the one in :Laem Chabang!

This is the place he is referring to

Oh haha yeah that is not a Central shopping mall just a normal big c. Got confused by the topic in the OP.

It used to be called Central Festival Center Pattaya ( AKA Big C North) it appears they changed the name, haven't been there for ages.

Hm is it by the Central group?

Big C and Central are owned by the same family but are two seperate companies

rumor has it that their lease with the "Central" company is over/ So wonder if someone took it over and want to rebuild or has different ideas with it.

Most people know it as "Big C Nua (North)" but it's also know as Central Festival or apparently "Central Center."

Funny enough, to my knowledge it's got no connection to the Central Retail Group, owners of the Central Beach Mall on Beach Road or the Central malls found throughout Thailand.

If the headline is confusing, the mods can modify it. ☺

Yes it is owned by Central Pattana, and yes it was called Central Festival prior to the opening of the Central on beach road, and no Big C is not owned by the same group.

Previously Big C was owned by a French company, and now by Thaibev, but about 20 years ago Big C was founded by Central Pattana.

Didn't know it changed hands. Thought it was always owned by the same people. What french company, Carrefour?

There were plenty of Big Cs that co existed with Carrefour during the time they were in Thailand.

Carrefour has always been owned by Carrefour, but was taken over by Big C which was owned by Geant Casino at that time, and renamed to Big C extra. Now recently Geant Casino has sold up to Thaibev .

I suppose it depends if you're just visiting or living here full time. Big C was never enough for me, before Central opened. A real mall with a real department store was the one thing missing in Pattaya 10 years ago.

It will be interesting to see what they can do with this place in 9 months.
