Changing Lifetime Paper Driving Licence to Plastic Card

Featured Replies

I have a 25 year old lifetime driving licence, issued in Pattaya. I would like to update it to the modern plastic card which also shows passport number.

I no longer live anywhere near Pattaya. Can I do this at my local Land Transport Office? Will they give me a new lifetime licence (I read somewhere recently that they were never intended for foreigners), and will it be just issuing a new card, or will a new written test etc be needed?

Thanks for any advice

Actually mine is 45 years old - on red paper - photo can be a source of amusement. sad.png

This type is not currently available so not sure what they would do.

Keep what you have, before you know it you're down to a 5 year licence.

Well my 5 year DL has my ID number no passport number I guess it's because I renew it showing my yellow house book along with everything else.

If your a PR you can get one...No problem...All the info is the same (Thai ID number,date,etc.). I just got mine done six months ago. My lifetime license was from 1996. No test..just make a copy of your house registration and Pink Card or Passport. They give you the old license back well which can still be used. The fee is 205 Baht. Good luck!
