... sounds similar to the Sukhumwit "urban renewal" project of Chuwit:

Stalls of Chatuchak vendors demolished

About 120 men wearing T-shirt with the word "police" moved in to forcefully demolish about 500 stalls of vendors who rent a plot of the State Railway Authority inside the Chatuchak Weekend Market.

A vendor was also assaulted when he took pictures of the men, who were backed up by a bulldozer.

Some vendors said the demolition started at thee am but many said at 6 am.

The vendors said the men threatened to assault them when they demanded to see a court warrant for the demolition.

A vendor, who identified herself as Nicky, said the vendors believed the men were sent by a developer, who claimed to have lease the plot from the SRT.

She said the vendors were still fighting with the developer in court over the right to remain selling there.

She said the developer had been trying to evict the vendors for about four months.

Vigilantes raid Chatuchak market

Over 100 men demolished vendor stalls at Chatuchak market this early morning, which lead to a clash between the men and vendors, police said. According to police at Bang Sue station, the clash resulted from a conflict of interest on the plot of land currently rented by vendors. Police successfully took control of the situation at about 10 a.m. and invited representatives from both sides - vendors and the Sunday Holding Company that leases the land - to settle the dispute at the station. Police said many people were physically injured because of the clash, among them was a vendor who tried to take a photo of the men but was assaulted after they spotted him.

"Violent destruction"

Destruction usually is that way, feather dusters and fluffy cushions rarely exact sufficiently violent force to demolish anything.

Most demolition AKA destruction jobs don't involve assaulting people... :o

Personally I think squatters should be kicked out. If they won't shift their <deleted> off other people's property peacefully...

"OKAY, make me go"

...then they have to expect to be manhandled.

If they were on my garden i'd chase them off with a pitchfork.
