I am going to Singapore with my partner towards the end of July for 4 nights and tying it in with getting a 30 day tourist visa when I come back. I do fancy taking my partner to Universal Studios. Are there any other good recommends on places to visit/see whilst we are there.

Posted

1) Chinatown -- Newish food street with lots of great food (stall style)

2) Marina Bay Sands -- Casino, good shopping, some nice food and food courts

3) Little India / Mustafa Center -- Good place for Indian food if you like it. The mall itself is meh.

4) Orchard Road -- Just walk up and down to see all the malls.

I've never been to Universal Studios/Island, as it seemed way too touristy for me. But I hear the Zoo is good to visit, so you can throw

that on your agenda too.

Have just returned

Universal - was a little disappointing, small, only one good(?) ride and the only show worth watching was Water World. Personally I would not go back

However I was totally bowled over by the Gardens by the Bay - go into both domes and for the Cloud Forest be sure to go to the top, quite incredible what they have done.

Yeah absolutely brilliant Gardens by the Bay.

Which show was on in the other dome still Tulips or did they already change to Lily's ?

I just looked at the website (http://www.gardensbythebay.com.sg/en/whats-on/calendar-of-events.html)

And I see the Lily event has already started, we were there in April and the Tulip event was on, absolutely gorgeous.

Edit: Before you go, make sure to check out: http://www.gardensbythebay.com.sg/en/whats-on/announcements/closure-dates.html

As they sometimes close domes for maintenance (here are the schedules for closure for 2016.

Can't comment on Universal as I haven't been (not our thing) but Underwater World in Sentosa is absolutely worth your while.

Singapore is designed to make you part with your money and doesn't exactly give you value in return.

The place is hurting badly, from an economic POV, so they will welcome your custom even more.

Universal Studios and are overpriced and the queues for the rides will waste a whole day. Also be wary of the so called iconic things you MUST do…they ail drain you of all your cash in return for scant enjoyment.

Things like having a drink on the top of Marina Bay Sands at $25 a pop….with snotty service.

Simple things are best in Singapore.

Do:

1. Check out hawker centre food…Newton, Maxwell etc.

2. Visit at least one seafood restaurant in the east coast park.

3. Singapore Zoo is the best Ive ever seen

4. Gardens by the Bay as someone else said

5. No one shops at Orchard Road any more….it's way overpriced and all the overcharging goes to cover their insane rental charges.

Universal Singapore is a little smaller than the one at Orlando but still done very well. If your partner is Thai and has never seen anything except Thai attractions she will be blown away. Unlike others here on TV, I think the rides are great. I recommend Revenge of the Mummy, Madagascar A Crate Adventure, Transformers, and for cute but well done Sesame Street Spaghetti Space Chase. My Thai gf and I went this last Christmas Day and it was packed but had a great time. I did however get the VIP pass which was expensive but we didn't wait in any lines and saw everything. If however you go on a week day in July the lines should not be too long but it will be hot and perhaps it will rain. Get there at opening and hit the rides I spoke of first while normal lines and not too long.

I also recommend going to the top of the Marina Sands and seeing the light show and the city at night. The Gardens by the Bay which others have spoke about and is near the Marina Sands is also fantastic and a must see. Combine both the Garden and the Sands in one evening. Enjoy your stay but expect to drop a few dollars, it's expensive compared to Thailand.

The Botanical Gardens are beautiful.

I considered it necessary to experience a Singapore Sling in the Long Bar at Raffles.

Don't need to do it again but it was worth every Penny of the GBP 18 price.

It's hard to comment without knowing what you & your partner enjoy doing but I would echo the other posters views on Universal as it's not worth it IMHO, if I wanted to take my partner to a theme park in Asia I would take her to Disneyland Hong Kong. The Zoos (especially the Night Safari) are great though & the Singapore Flyer is worth a whirl (assuming it's open again, it had been closed for some time when I last visited).

For evening entertainment, a Singapore Sling at the Long Bar in Raffles Hotel is one of those things that's on "The List" of things to do when visiting Singapore followed by dinner at Chjimes or Clark/Boat Quay & maybe a few beers at Asia Bar (May have changed name but it's the bar at the top of the Stamford Hotel).... All within a short(ish) walk from each other.

BTW, I assume you & your partner are fully vaccinated as Singapore has some pretty strict rules about what you can & can't do if you're not, mate of mine who lives there is an Anti-Vaxer (I don't agree with him but it's his body so his choice) & he is not allowed to go into pubs or dine-in at restaurants.

Edit: Sentosa is quiet a nice day out as well, some very chilled bars on the beach there & a some entertainment https://www.sentosa.com.sg/en/things-to-do/attractions?gclid=CjwKCAjw-8qVBhANEiwAfjXLrq5titxNbvInlrcXU_cJfRB8RNRAdA-EbTMXTjq99ufNk6TvPuQbbRoCTh4QAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

I agree, a Singapore Sling at Raffles is almost a "Rite of Passage" when you visit Singapore ????
