well, this one sure bought out the Thaksin-haters didn't it?

As far as I can see, the sale of what is now known as AIS was completed within the law.so what the hell is the problem please? Or do I need to be a few snags short of a full barbie to understand it?

Good grief. Are you in denial or totally ignorant? Educate yourself about the blatant corruption involved, the public outcry, his subsequent resignation, and the charges still waiting.

(1) The law was changed at Thaksin's behest to allow the sale to go through - previously the sale of a national utility to a foreign owner was banned.

(2) The transaction was rigged in such a way that no capital gains tax was paid.

You missed out some words. Here, I've put them in for you.

Tax minimisation is common among the wealthy in Thailand, as it is across the world. Can't say I've heard anyone in here howling about that.

But then, this is Thaksin so it's different. Apparently.

Am I in denial? No.

Blatant corruption has not yet been shown. Innocent until proven guilty.

Public outcry is not proof of anything in the land of rent-a-mobs. Thais are generally not well educated and are generally more emotional than they should be, it's a 3rd-world thing, and there is no shortage of people who will pay for a mob and faux outrage against the 'uneducate people'. I can post some pictures if such rent-a-mobs if you like.

As far as I recall, the resignation of the last Thaksin government was to allow an election and stop the rented mobs laying waste to the streets of Bangkok.

Do calm down lad, we all know you feel strongly about this stuff, but you might like to educate yourself in matters of the law, because in civilised countries, it's the law that matters not a few people having noisy tantrums.

Winnie

By the way, do you know what Thai for 'pumpkin' is? Just asking.

Oh right, any law passed by parliament is acceptable to you, but laws against blatant corruption and abuse of office should be ignored?

"Supreme Court Criminal Division for Holders of Political Positions Judge Pongphet Vichitchonchai (of a 9-judge panel, with the concurrence of Justice Pornpetch), on 15 October 2008, issued a 5th arrest warrant against Thaksin, for failure to appear at the hearing of his "Sale of Shin Corporation to Temasek Holdings" case, due to self-imposed exile in London"[

I'm sorry that a don't know a stronger word than sycophant, but I have the feeling you would still be spouting deflections if he beheaded a baby on national television.

And yes, I know the word for pumpkin.

So no conviction yet then. So he's still innocent - right? Or is an arrest warrant issued by a Thai court enough proof of guilt for you?

I'm sorry that a don't know a stronger word than sycophant, but I have the feeling you would still be spouting deflections if he beheaded a baby on national television.

Deflections? No deflections here that I can see no sycophants either. Unless...

No abuse if you please, try to remain calm and polite.

And yes, I know the word for pumpkin.

OK, just curious why you would use a pumpkin head to identify yourself, but it's none of my business of course.

No response to this post is necessary.

I don't need to wait for a conviction after witnessing, along with millions of others, the most blatantly corrupt abuse of office I could imagine. Pure hubris led him to believe he could get away with it. Pure cowardice stops him from answering the charges against him. Pure sycophancy allows you to ignore his crimes against the people of Thailand.

My birthday is Oct 31; what's your excuse?

So, was the article posted to be able to mention Thaksin again? Did someone want to make suggestive link to security and telling the government upon request?

Mind you in some other country a federal bureau is still seeing it's way free to access someones email without requiring a warrant. THey would love the co-operation of private companies like this one.

Why are you asking Thai visa posters? Contact the Daily Telegraph who published the article. Come on Ruby, by the way the BP has posted the story today with more information. Try researching a little, it doesn't hurt and can be very informative.

Absolutely, researching doesn't hurt and can be very informative. That's why when I post data found I'm attacked on person as I tend to find too much. Unfortunately unlike some here maybe, I have a full time job and not always the time to do much searching.

As for contacting the Daily Telegraph, one might wonder if Thaksin himself or a servant called attention phoning a reporter. Interesting we have in the article "It is understood" and "according to City sources"

BTW just searching on BP for "Scentrics" as named in the OP gives a nice

"Unfortunately, the word 'Scentrics' did not match anything."

So no contacting the Telegraph and plough on regardless.

Of course this 'full time job' does not prohibit leaping to the defence of the junta by the most expeditious means and posting prolifically on other fora...

Look up 'Nimiety'

So, no opinion from you apart from tearing into posters again?

As for posting 'prolifically on other fora', are you a closeted 'uncle rubl' groupie or do you think I do not have the right to decide how I spent my time but should ask others ?

'Nimiety'? Well the OP and the Telegraph article only mentions 'Scentrics', and BP doesn't seem to know 'Scentrics'. Maybe BP made a spelling error ?

Of course we also have

Nimiety: The state of being more than is necessary, The state of being more than is necessary or desirable, excess.

Well, here we agree again. I also wonder why Thaksin was mentioned in an article talking about software which makes it possible to allow governments access to private data. I would expect a mention of GCHQ as this article is in a British newspaper. Of course as I wrote previously does someone want to make a suggestive move to try to associate Thaksin with providing the junta with means to better know what everybody writes in those encrypted emails ? Or is Thaksin just planning for his return from self-imposed exile?

So no contacting the Telegraph and plough on regardless, then.

Also plenty of free time from this 'full time job' to spend as you desire.

Congratulations on learning a new word today: Not bad for someone who you suspected aloud was not much of a reader without knowing the first thing about him, eh?

Now enjoy the last word. You need it...

BTW you seem to have lots of spare time to attack posters. Did you already look up the Scentrics article in the BP Wilson was talking about?

THe story about Scentrics goes back a long while already it would seem.

Except, Indicii Salus never did float. It failed to pay the bill to the management consultancy PcW for a pre-floatation report in 2008, and it subsequently went into administration and was dissolved.

Yet another example of an IT company with an overinflated valuation.

Its IP was sold to Comodo for an undisclosed price (a.k.a. "peanuts").
