coalminer
Six foreign tourists injured in Pataya hotel fire Post #8 Pattaya - Six foreign tourists were injured after a fire raged through a hotel in this seaside town late Monday night, police said. <snipped> Source: The Nation - 15 November 2006 *********************************************** Five tourists injured in Thai hotel blaze Post #15 BANGKOK, Thailand: A fire broke out at a hotel in a Thai resort town early Wednesday, injuring five Middle Eastern tourists, police said. <snipped> Source: Associated Press - November 14, 2006 *********************************************** Am I missing something or this "creative reportage"? A fire brake out and was controlled after 1 hour, but according to the reports it started on "Monday night" and "broke out" on Wednesday night? Funnier is that the report about the starting of the fire is publsihed on November, 15th and the report of the fire outbreak is published on November 14th. Well, everything is possible with these Arab guys.
Jai Dee
I think you'll find that with any breaking news story, initially reported facts are sketchy.
ehs818
Is this an example of 'Spontaneous Arab Combustion'? Is this a trend? But seriouly, I'll bet that one of those guys smoking was responsible for the fire. However, the lack of fire sprinklers, fire alarms, and competent fire fighters all contribute to this problem..... summerT
well not a massive problem I dont think.
jeff_gangl
I hope it's not another example of over-crowding and sub-standard fire prevention systems...but sadly enough, I doubt the hotel was up to industry standards...it doesn't matter much where the poeple came from, it seems to be a problem in Pattaya...and will continue to be unless proper enforcements of fire regulations are under-taken...I doubt that will happen...better to stay home close to the pool... george
Update: Six tourists injured in Pattaya hotel fire PATTAYA: -- Six foreign tourists were injured in a hotel fire in south Pattaya early yesterday morning, police said. The fire started at about 12.30am in a fourth-floor room of the six-storey Marine Plaza Hotel, prompting more than 100 tourists to flee the building, according to Pattaya police. Major Weerawut Meelai said three guests were injured when they attempted to use bedding to scale the outside of the hotel. Three others were treated for smoke inhalation. It took fire fighters more than half an hour to extinguish the blaze. Damage was estimated at about Bt1 million. The hotel caters mainly to guests from the Middle East. Omani tourist Klalis Mahammad, 18, told police he noticed a burning smell coming from the air-conditioning compressor unit in his room before fire took hold of curtains and carpet. He fled the room. Pattaya Superintendent Colonel Suthin Sabpuang said hotel staff had earlier observed Klalis and a woman entering the hotel in an intoxicated state. They suspect a dropped cigarette may have started the fire although investigators were waiting for forensic-test results. Guests returning to their rooms later complained valuables and cash were missing. A tourist from Dubai, Brahim Carry, 18, said Bt14,000 cash was gone from his room. One witness said there were many people coming and going from the hotel during the drama - including fire fighters and rescue volunteers. Criminals may have taken advantage of the confusion to steal valuables. Police advised guests who had suffered losses to lodge reports. -- The Nation 2006-11-
