Ubon Ratchathani attracts baby boomers in a new tourism campaign

UBON RATCHATHANI, 28 June 2016 (NNT)-Ubon Ratchathani province launched a tourism campaign yesterday aimed at attracting travelers to the province during the rainy season.

A press conference, which was held yesterday, was very lively as it was joined by Thailand’s renowned country singer and a national artist, Mrs. Banyen Rakkaen. The objective of the campaign is to encourage the baby boomer age group to visit the province, increasing their numbers from 8% last year to 12% of visitors this year during the monsoon season.

The campaign is targeting so-called baby boomers or people now aged between 51-69 years of age, due to their buying power and mobility. Ubon Ratchathani Governor Somsak Jangtrakun said they are very welcome to visit his province where they can see natural tourist sites, observe local traditions and enjoy north eastern food favorites

To promote tourism to the North East of the country, Air Asia Thailand is offering 25% off bookings for flights from Bangkok to north eastern provinces. Tickets can now be booked for flights scheduled between July 11th and September 30th. The offer ends on July 17th this year.

Quite sensible really- the baby boomers in my home country - are the ones with real money. Kids gone, sitting on nice ( never to be repeated ) pensions , huge wealth in property, nice inheritances . They are the 1% .

They travel several times a year- so let's go to Ubon !

Targeting Thais or foreigners?

Thai's only, we don't need any falangs up here with their dam bad manners!

LOL.

Then again, like many would be going to Ubon. Lao, Vietnamese and Khmers are likely to be in far greater abundance in that province and with good reason - two out of these three countries share a border with Ubon, while the third (Vietnam) can be reached in a few hours by bus via Pakse.

Only saw one foreigner who was drunk and another damn near drunk. Nothing to do but go to the two main malls Central and Soni, where you never see Thais buying anything but food and soaking up the air con. Movie theaters rarely have movies in English. They have a park with a giant candle and you can join all the rest of middle-aged Thais fast walking or try to hang with the young Thais trying to look like Arnold. Their biggest attractions are the McDonald's. I stayed there several months. I really enjoyed the 7-Elevens.

Central almost always has at least 1 movie in English and the best tourist spots are the parks on the borders. You didn't leave the city?
