KHON KAEN: -- Residents in Khon Kaen have been warned about fake water bill receipts after a householder was conned in the city.

A 175 centimeter tall man on a motorbike in an orange rain jacket presented a bill to a customer for 561.11 baht saying that if it was not paid to him the customer would be cut off. He said he was from the Khon Kaen water authority, reported tnamcot.

He is thought to have picked up a genuine bill from the mailbox outside the house.

The customer paid though the man said just 560 baht was ok, "he would give her a discount". The bogus bill man then gave the customer a receipt and drove off.

On reflection the user thought something was amiss and went to the local water authority office on Wednesday where the receipt was found to be ake.

Keukoon Ratanasuwan of the Khon Kaen provincial water authority said that bill collection is never done in person like this. People should pay at the water board or through proper counter service channels only.

A leafleting campaign will be carried out in the area to warn users.

People who think they may be being duped can call 043 228313, 043221218 or 043 224022 extension 124 to report the matter.
