Toyota, Thailand winners in July car sales figures

Featured Replies

July’s figures from the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries show Toyota continuing to top sales of new cars, and Thailand at the top of imported car sales for the first time ever.

The Motor Report notes that Toyota sold 17,465 new vehicles, with the most popular model being the Corolla (3,427).

The next most popular brands were Mazda (8,460) and Hyundai (7,603). Overall new car sales for the month were 91,331, and the FCAI said the industry was on track for the best annual sales figures ever.

For Australia - i'd say the most significant point for this forum is..

"By country, Thailand claimed the number one spot. 23,803 vehicles sold were imported from Thailand, ahead of Japan – for the first time ever – with 23,359."

and

"“Thai vehicle industry arguably was the biggest single winner of the free trade agreement Australia signed with Thailand in 2005”.

( ilove the expression "single winner" as the FTA was between Thailand and Oz....so what would they expect? Japan????

Those are the sales figures for Thailand.

between Australia and Thailand, Thailand is the only winner because the loop holes left in the agreement meant Australia was screwed over (auto wise and probably in other areas).

not sure if all the facts in this article are correct, but gives a general idea what happened; Australia increased imports of cars from Thailand, and thailand took nothing.

to put it succintly, Thailand was smarter than Australia

With so few dealerships it's incredible how well Hyundai is selling..
