My mate was going on an on about the trouble the muslims are causing in the south of Thailand. I told him to do a bit of reading about British Malaya and Siam. That shut him up.

It is a relief it was a history lesson and not a spelling lesson

So your telling him to do some reading was what shut him up? Or did you hang around for a few hours or days as he read about it on the internet and then he came back dumbstruck?

 

In any event the historical lesson of the South is irrelevant other than as a possible solution to the violence (by ceding control of it) but somehow I don't think this was your point?
